She is widely regarded as one of the most known female athletes. In 2014 she ranked #1 for the whole year. At age 40 she is still able to compete with people that are half her age. Williams has inspired many athletes all over the world and is widely respected. Williams is bringing her long and legendary career as a tennis player to a close.
Williams has also won numerous awards/grand slams. She has won 23 grand slam titles and comes in a close second to Margaret Court. Williams also supports people off the court. She teamed up with UNICEF to help educate the children of Africa, she was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in 2011. Williams took women's tennis to another level. Williams changed the play style of many players. Earlier this month fans flocked to watch the living legend herself play her last match. Williams was beaten by Ajla Tomljanovic, who ranked number 46 worldwide. During the post-game press conference when asked what it would take for her to return to tennis she stated that she wasn’t thinking about it. “Clearly I'm still capable but it takes a lot more than that.
