The holiday season is the perfect time to grab some hot chocolate, sit on the couch with a cozy blanket, and watch a movie with those you love. However, choosing a movie to watch can often be a hassle. Here is a list of some OSA students’ favorite holiday movies, so that someone else’s favorite might become yours.
Movie: Home Alone
Recommended by: Shayna Barzell-Webber

A forever classic, this 1990 movie is enjoyed by kids from one to 92. According to Shayna, “There’s a boy and he has a pretty large family and his family is going on this trip and they leave without him, and they somehow just don’t notice.

“So then they just go on vacation without their son and then he’s stuck back home alone and he’s probably like ten years old. And then these two guys break in and it’s really scandalous and then he designs all these traps and stuff.”

When asked about why she enjoys the movie, Shayna says, “It’s just a funny movie and it’s just a really fun and cool movie to watch. I 10/10 recommend watching this movie if you’re looking for a little giggle with the family during this holiday season."

Movie: Santa Hunters
Recommended by: Trevor Walton

An exciting movie that will get you into the Christmas spirit, Santa Hunters is “a really cool movie,” according to Trevor. “Four kids want to hunt down Santa because they want to know if it’s a myth or if it’s real. So they set some traps then they can’t catch Santa. Then, after that, they have proof about Santa but someone steals it. Then they find Santa. He’s getting weak because the holiday spirit is poofing away, so they have to make sure that all the presents are being delivered so the holiday spirit is able to still be alive, meanwhile stopping the person who has proof of Santa.”

Trevor first watched Santa Hunters on 2015, when he found it while surfing channels. “When I watched it, it was really good, so I just continued watching it,” he said.

Movie: Elf
Recommended by: Chiara Kovac

Many people state this as their favorite holiday movie, as it’s a charming and hilarious classic. “A human raised by elves goes on a quest to find his actual father,” says Chiara of the plot. Many people are familiar with the trouble that Buddy gets himself into throughout this movie, from knocking over christmas trees to exposing a Santa Claus actor in front of a crowd of kids. But this is a movie that you can watch again and again and never get tired of.

Chiara enjoys the movie “because it’s really funny.” Her dad introduced her to the movie when she was in the fourth grade, and she’s watched it ever since.

Movie: Frosty the Snowman
Recommended by: Cecilia Fontaine

Everyone knows the story of Frosty the Snowman, but if a refresher is needed, Cecilia tells the plot as “these children trying to make a snowman, and the snowman comes alive.” The adorable animation and nostalgic nature of this movie make it a must-watch for the holiday season.

She enjoys the movie because it’s “kind of stupid,” but in a good way. Her aunt introduced her to the movie when she was just a toddler, and she also enjoys the book version.

Movie: Krampus
Recommended by: Joaquin Montes De Oca

If you’re looking for a holiday fright, this is the movie for you. According to Joaquin, the movie is “About these people, and they’re not good people, and they get attacked by this monster named Krampus who steals children and eats them.” He then goes on to describe how the children are eaten in graphic detail. And be aware, this movie is not for the faint of heart.

Joaquin enjoys this movie because “It’s a very interesting twist on the general idea of the holidays.” If you’re stuck on the typical movies of happy families and childish humor, consider Krampus.
From Frosty the Snowman to Krampus, this list has a movie for any of your holiday moods. So, instead of fighting over the remote, use this as a reference.

I can NOT believe you put Krampus on here. I was scrolling through this with my children and now my son wants to watch that movie. He is WAY too young. He's only 32. You are just such a messed up person for doing that. Now my husband is leaving me and my son got run over by a tractor. and I have to watch frosty the snow man??? who even is that. I just wanted to play the trumpet, but for some reason you just can't except that. I'm so done with ur little shananigans and I'm sending you away to a boarding school in Japan where you don't even get to watch Krampus.
