"Let's welcome Mr. Castro to OSA!" --Ava Ford, Seventh Grade
Armondo Castro grew up in Oakland and Hayward before becoming Dean of Students at Oakland School for the Arts. He attended Centennial High School in Las Vegas. He worked at Arise High School as a Special Education Teacher, Restorative Justice, PE Teacher and Boys and Girls Soccer Coach.
Armando said, “I wanted to continue working in education and becoming a Dean was something I was looking for!” So far he has really enjoyed the environment OSA has provided.
Armondo Castro wants to make OSA a place where students feel safe and happy. His goal is to make students want to go to school! So far Armando has cracked down on the phone rules. Armando says, “I never liked school, so working at a school is so funny to me.”
“Working at OSA has been great so far. I am enjoying the environment and students.” Armonda says. “I want to enforce having a good time at school and also students utilizing their time at school for a good reason and not be on their phones in class.”
Outside of school, Armonda coaches and plays soccer. This is his first year as a Dean. “Using phones is something that can be done but at an appropriate time,” He said while stating his opinion on the use of phones in school.
One thing he wants people to know is, “I am happy, I am an educator since I can understand those students that don't like or want to be at school. Finishing High School and attending college changed my life. I am also a soccer player and soccer coach.”
