OSA afterschool ideas

Downtown Oakland has a few new options for afterschool programs within blocks of OSA. Schools out, and what will you do? Kids should always have a place to go after school if their parents are still at work.  If you are wondering what you or your kid can do after school here is a list that will answer your questions. 

Girls Inc: Girls inc is a youth program that has multiple after school options for girls in middle school. It also has programs for high school girls too. The Girls Inc building is located on 16 street. It includes multiple programs like Eureka and All Stars. All Stars ia a program where Monday through Thursday your kid can come and participate in fun activities. It starts at 3pm and ends at  5:45pm except on Wednesday when it starts at 2pm and ends at 5:45pm. Each day has different activities for entertainment. Ice rink: The Oakland Ice rink is located right across the street from OSA. The ice rink is open everyday. Even if you can’t or don’t want to go ice skating, it has a lot of other options for fun  activities;, games, snacks, an arcade, and a lot of other fun things to do. http://www.oaklandice.com/

Little Giant Ice Cream: Little Giants Ice Cream is located on the corner of  Telegraph and across the street from Newberry. Little Giant is a colorful and fun place to sit and hang out with your friends here is a website with times and other info:

Dungeons and Dragons Club 101: The D and D club (as they are known to be called) is a club that teaches you how to play Dungeons and Dragons. This after-school club is held at school in room 245 for 30 mins after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Save The Trees Club: Save The Trees Club is an environmentally-friendly club for OSA students  to work on saving our planet and our trees. It is held in room 316 on Mondays at 3 :35 pm  

Three O’ Clock Rock: Three O’ Clock Rock is a music after school program. It is located on Franklin Street and has tons of music-based activities and choices. For more information on this music program visit

YMCA: YMCA has many after school programs for all ages. In this program, there are many different choices for kids to do cool things. It is located on broadway. For more information on YMCA Downtown Oakland visit this website

Marana Cafe: Marana Cafe is a small juice shop around the corner of the school. It has Juices, Smoothies, and baked goods. It is located on 19th Street . Marana Cafe’s schedule is 7:30AM-5:00PM  For more info on this local Cafe visit

Fat Cat Cafe: Fat Cat Cafe is a cafe around the corner and across the street. It has baked goods, drinks, and seating. It has a pretty good location for OSA students. It is on Telegraph St. For information on anything else, visit

I think this is a great way to learn what are good options for places I can go nearby. This article helped me choose what places are available that I am interested in.

Yeah, I know this article will be very helpful for a lot of OSA students. It helped me and my friends decide where to go instead of justs walking around downtown oakland.
