EH: How long have you been doing visual arts?
AS: Pretty much as far back as I can remember, I actually originally came to OSA for visual arts.

Who are your favorite artists/influences?
I really like the pre-raphaelites. I like the elements of fantasy and I like the colors, the kind of warmth present in them. I also like a bunch of illustrators, which I can’t remember their names but I’ll send them to you. I really love graphic novelists, like Marjane Satrapi I like her style and her simplicity. How beautiful her work can be using a monochromatic palette. It’s funny because pre-Raphaelite stuff is like, color city, man! But she just uses black and white and occasionally shades of grey. Guess I’m just hard to define!

EH:Why aren’t you in visual arts right now?
AS:I was actually in visual arts for all of middle school, but when I first applied to OSA I also tried to apply to literary arts before I learned that it was a high school only emphasis. I just ended up wanting to work more on my writing than my visual arts.
EH:Do you practice any other art forms?
AS: Yes, I’ve dabbled in photography and I play the violin.
EH:Do your multiple arts ever intersect?
AS:Oh, all the time. My senior book will actually be a multimedia work, with illustration to go along with the writing.
EH:What is the primary art form you express yourself with?
AS:I write mostly, just because that’s my emphasis, as well as it being the medium in which I’m the most comfortable.

TS: It’s been two years, basically. Or, two years that I’ve actually been interested in it.

| EH: Who are your favorite artists/influences? TS: My favorite artists aren’t necessarily visual artists, per say. My favorite right now would be Steve McQueen, the director. I guess my favorite visual artist right now is Charles Burns. |  Charles Burns |

TS: I like to think about things conceptually, so on some level, they do overlap. I use different art forms to compliment each other, like making mood boards for projects that aren’t visual related.
EH: What is the reason you are in Fashion Design instead of visual arts?
TS:The reason I'm in Fashion Design is because I think it’s closer to what I want to do in the future. The end goal is doing film. I was never in visual, I was in vocal. I don't really know why, I wanted to be in an artistic environment so I chose to go to vocal for some reason. I don't really want to be in digital media because I think in the end, I have a pretty good set up in fashion design right now. Ms.Linda kind of knows my situation so I do a lot of independent projects, and projects that deal with what I plan on doing.
EH:Do you ever kind vocal coming into play in your art?
TS:A lot of what I was doing in vocal was math, actually. I think I learned a lot about vocal, I learned a lot about auditioning, so not necessarily specifically vocal related things but things that are related to it that I still use.

| | EH:How long have you been doing visual arts? MB:Since I was a little kid. But I got more into it around two years ago. EH: Who are your favorite artists/influences? MB:I like a lot of cartoonists like TinTin and Asterix and also R. Crumb comics and painters like Matisse, also the graffiti in the streets. EH:Why aren’t you in visual arts right now? MB:I'm in instrumental because when I auditioned for OSA I knew how to play guitar a lot better than I knew how to draw, so I tried to go for guitar. EH:Do your multiple arts ever intersect? MB:Kind of, sometimes I get irritated that I play guitar all day everyday because I wish that I could draw something instead. In a way, they interact I like to listen to music when I draw. EH:What is the primary art form you express yourself with? MB:Probably drawing, for sure. EH: How would you describe your style? MB:I like cartoons and I like stuff that MC Escher did that has hella dimensions, so I do stuff like that. |
