Mr. King is one of the most popular middle school teachers at OSA.”Mr. King is really and engaging, and always makes sure your focused. He also makes it really easy to learn.” says Hazel Phillips. He has always wanted to be a teacher since he was in seventh grade. He always wanted to teach math but if that didn’t work out he would do English.
This will be Mr. King’s third year teaching at OSA., Before OSA, he taught at Montera Middle School. He did technology on mobile phones, and also worked as a consultant in the energy industry doing Economical Analogy.(assessing or examining topics or issues from an economist’s perspective. Economic analysis is the study of economic systems. It may also be a study of a production process or an industry. The analysis aims to determine how effectively the economy or something within it is operating. For example, an economic analysis of a company focuses mainly on how much profit it is making.)
“I love OSA and the fact that [students] get to spend a couple of hours a day working on something [they’re] passionate about. My son went to an art-focused school and I think that a middle school that is arts-focused is a very good idea, because it gives you something to care about and be passionate about,” he said.
Mr King likes teaching sixth grade because his students are still kids, but they are also becoming young adults. He said he wouldn’t teach any other subject because he likes teaching math and science.
He grew up in the Bay Area around Walnut Creek, and Alamo. He enjoys rock climbing, cooking, and reading if he can, and lots of other sports. He went to UC Irvine for his undergraduate degree in English and Social Ecology, and the University of Texas, Austin, for his Masters Degree in Public Policy, and Mills College for his Masters Degree in Education.
