One of OSA's several arts pathways, Fashion, is gearing up for the fall season. There is a clear change in the weather. With that change comes a change in wardrobe. Linda Ricciardi, Fashion Chair at OSA, says that the big difference between her fall and summer clothing is the fabrics she wears. “For fall I wear thicker fabrics such as wool, denim, and leather. Things that are heavier and warmer.” In summer she wears light cottons, linen fabrics, and flowier things.
Gabbi Luevano, 6th-grade Fashion student at OSA says she wears “lighter colors in the summer,” and things that have less coverage than fall clothes, like tank tops, shorts, skirts, and sandals. During the fall, she wears pants and sweaters.
Naomi Brack, a 7th-grade Fashion student at OSA loves sweaters because they are “warm and easy to slip on for the mornings.” Ricciardi also likes sweaters as they are easy to fit into high-low-style: a way she likes to dress up and down. “The fun thing about those classic basic staples is you can dress them down,” she explains, “Or you can dress them up with a basic hoodie or sweatshirt and pair it with a fancy pair of pants or shoes which is what I like to call a high low style.” Isadora Oznowicz, 7th-grade Fashion student at OSA, likes sweaters and crewnecks very much because they are “nice in a fashion sense” and they keep you warm.
In Fashion, the students make art collages of things that look good to them and blend well together, so maybe they know what clothes go together for the best fall fashion. Brack is pretty simple and loves to pair a sweater with some leggings. Oznowicz says she likes crewnecks and would pair a crewneck with flare jeans and converse. Luevano says, “I would wear a hoodie with baggy jeans and some converse, with lots of bracelets and rings.” Ricciardi says that it depends on where she is going for what clothes she wears. “If I were going to work or somewhere nice I would pair some nice dress pants or slacks with a nice blazer or overcoat, but if I knew I was going to be at OSA the whole day working a show or doing makeup I would wear just a pair of old jeans and sneakers.”
Ricciardi is excited to see “the new color” this fall. “Every year there is a fall color that people wear that stands out and are not your basic blacks and browns. This year, the color seems to be a vibrant purple.” Brack says she is excited to see people wearing “really big, puffy coats and cardigan sweaters.”
Luevanos' fashion inspiration is TikTok. She says, “If I see somebody wearing something that looks really good on TikTok, then I’ll just copy them.” Oznowicz says that she doesn’t have any fashion inspirations. “I just choose what looks cute to me,” Oznowicz said. There is a designer Ricciardi and her students met named Sergio Hudson, an up and coming costume designer. He has “dressed Michelle Obama for the inauguration of Joe Biden, and currently has a line at Target.” Riccardi said. Riccardi thinks the colors he uses “ are really great with fantastic tailoring” and he is her favorite designer right now.
