"Dungeons and Dragons is a role playing game where players create a character to go on an adventure together."
--Jif Dillemuth, 7th grade
Diego Maldanado created the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) club this year to be able to take on a bigger role at OSA. “My ego was too big to be just a normal student at OSA,” he said, “so I was like, ‘I need to be the president of something,’ so of course D&D club was the next logical step.”
Dungeons and Dragons is a role playing game where players create a character to go on an adventure together. D&D club meets after school on Tuesdays for players in Room 245. So far in the club, Maldanado is teaching curious students about races, classes, and stats from the Player’s Handbook so they will be able to develop their characters.
On Thursdays after school, Maldanado holds a special class for Dungeon Masters (DMs) where he wants to train experienced players to be DMs. Maldanado has been a DM for about four years, even though he has never been a player of D&D. In that class, one DM in training is writing a campaign for the players. A campaign is a storyline with a number of outcomes based on the roll of a die.
Right now is a great time to join the club because they haven’t started the campaign yet. Depending on how it goes this year, Maldanado wants to keep the campaign and players he has now for the next few years. This might be your chance to get involved in a new student-led club at OSA. I hope to see you at the next meeting of the D&D club.
