Looking for something to do with your hands? The Chronicles Of Yarnia is the club for you! Learn how to crochet and knit in room 245 on Tuesdays at lunch.
The Chronicles of Yarnia is very fun and inclusive because everyone has a different skill level. The club only does crocheting, knitting, and embroidery (and hopefully at some point hand sewing), but you can make anything you want with string if they (or you) have the supplies. Everyone is there to have some fun, make some friends, and be creative.
“I didn’t know how to knit or crochet, and one day when I was walking down the hall I saw a poster for it, and I thought it was interesting so I went to the club,” said 7th grade Literary Arts student Joaquin Montes de Oca. “I originally went to learn how to knit, but I learned how to crochet first.”
Ms. Romy, Director of Data and Special Projects at OSA, started the Chronicles Of Yarnia because she believes that knitting and crocheting is a great way to relax. A lot of kids deal with anxiety, and it helps to be calm. When you don’t have anyone to talk to, you can just pull out your yarn. “It can be very frustrating knitting or crocheting since you can miss a stitch or just mess up. But once you get a rhythm and you get a flow, it can be really calming and stress relieving.” says Joaquin Montes de Oca.
“I hope people like it and will come back next week,” said Ms Romy. “We will make a bunch of crochet flowers to put around the school with little notes. And if someone is having a bad day, they can take it off the wall and have it on their shoes or backpack. Similar to the notes that you probably have seen around the school or yarn bombing you might see in the streets on poles.”
Have some fun in the Chronicles Of Yarnia! It’s a great club to go to if you want to make some new friends, do something with your hands, or just talk to people that are there. All grades are welcome.
