It is important to stay connected with friends and family in these times, it's been four weeks since you could get a high five. We are all getting antsy and lonely while we can’t meet up but there are still many ways to connect. So what can you do to stay in contact? Some things you could do include Zoom, Facetime, Game Pigeon, Uno, or online video games.
Zoom and Facetime may seem awkward at first, but if you plan to plan an activity it will be a better time. Cayden Feely a seventh grader in theater said “I’ve been face timing my really good friend a lot and playing online games with her.” In addition to hanging out with friends on Facetime and Zoom some in school and out of school extracurricular classes are still going on online. Joining things like martial arts, music lessons, Dance, or even Nerd Herd and Harry Potter club would be a good way to be a part of the community. Another way to use Zoom is teaching each other hobbies like cooking, origami, drawing, to name a few. Using Zoom you can present your screen by pressing the present or share button at the bottom bar so everybody can see your screen. This feature can be useful for many different activities like playing a video game together, or watching a movie.
An obvious way to keep in touch with family and friends is through your phone. However, in these times you can be creative about how you use your phone to stay connected. For example, you can play games in texts through Game Pigeon. They are simple games that you can send to a friend and play back and forth, but only Apple users can take advantage. There are other apps like Uno, Mario Kart Tour, Scrabble Go, Sky: Children of the Light, a game where the player explores realms with a cape that grants you the ability to fly, also Houseparty you can video chat together and play games like heads up. You can play together just by downloading these apps for free and inviting friends to join you.
Playing online video games with voice chats could be something to do together. Games like Fortnite are free but others like Overwatch, and Call of Duty have a price. Another fun online game without a voice chat is Animal Crossing: New Horizons where you can visit each other’s islands.
In conclusion, staying in touch is valuable with everything going on, it’s nice to check in on each other. Try to be a part of the community so no one is alone. Just because we are stuck inside doesn’t mean we can’t have fun in different ways.
