COVID cases are on the rise, but it seems despite much criticism from fans, social media influencers continue to throw large parties and ignore the strict guidelines put into place to stop the spread of the virus.
Popular TikToker and social media star Charli D'amelio and her sister Dixie D'amelio are currently facing backlash for taking a vacation to the Bahamas despite the large spike of COVID-19 cases recently. According to Insider.com “The D'Amelio sisters were spotted with at least five other content creators at a resort in the Bahamas around Christmas.” Charli, Dixie, and the few other influencers who joined them on this trip have not addressed the subject.
As you can imagine, people were NOT happy about this. Declan McMahon an 8th grade literary arts students was among them. “Honestly the lack of social distancing is really stupid [and] it’s going [to] spread COVID-19 very quickly throughout the influencer commmunity.” Not only were they angry about the lack of social distancing, but he was also angry at the hypocrisy.
Just two days before a controversial post by Madi Monroe confirmed the group of influencers were in the Bahamas, Charli Damelio went on Instagram Live to tell her fans to “stop being so inconsiderate to others”—an attempt to encourage them to social distance and wear masks.

Despite the criticism focused on bigger influencers, Charli D'amelio and her friend group are definitely not the only ones who aren’t social distancing.
By simply sitting down and scrolling through your “For You” page on TikTok, you’ll see hundreds of unmasked TikTokers from all over the world collaborating with each other and ignoring the pleas from their fans to put on a mask.
Just last week Duke Depp better known under his TikTok username willywonkatiktok, posted videos with themiriantwins with no masks. Despite almost all of TikTok calling them out, they have not addressed anything.
All in all the normalization of influencers not social distancing is horrible, and they shouldn’t get a free pass just because they have a platform. Stay home and stay safe.
