"Covid-19 has affected our lives in ways we may not have expected, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of it. Several holidays have been improvised so we can all stay safe in Quarantine. Today, focusing primarily on our favorite fall holidays."--Caliope Dean, 6th grade
Covid-19 has affected our lives in ways we may not have expected, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of it. Several holidays have had to be improvised so we can all stay safe in Quarantine, starting with our favorite fall holidays.
How are our Literary Arts students reacting to this? Was Quarantine Halloween a success?
Seventh grader Isabella Schainker said, “I celebrated Halloween with my family members, it was also around my birthday so it was like a multi-celebration.”
Eight grader Holly Young celebrated quarantine Halloween a little differently “We did a social distance thing with one other person,” she said. “We walked around the neighborhood. We didn’t go to a haunted house or anything though.”
Schainker, however, went out with a friend. “I hung out with someone on my pod, but we didn’t associate it with Halloween, rather on it being close to my birthday.”
“I was honestly disappointed with Halloween.” Isabella continued, sadly, “I didn’t like trick-or-treat or dress up.”
Young though, had a different opinion. “I’m honestly not sure,” she said, “I thought it was pretty fun to just stay home and carve pumpkins.”
However different their quarantine Halloween experiences, both students are going to take away something from this going forward.
“I am going to try not to take it for granted. Just like walking around, trick or treating, you know? Like you go to this ice cream store after school, and all of the sudden you don’t see that ice cream store for six months,” Shainker answered.
“I think I am going to trust people a bit more, everybody is being really responsible,” said Young. “Just being really safe. It wasn’t that bad just staying home. I have no desire to go and hug people or anything.”
