Cosmetics used to be made naturally, with real herbs and thought put into it. Now they’re mostly made using chemicals and then tested on animals.
The creation of makeup:
The creation of cosmetics dates back as far as 100,000 years ago. Cosmetics being makeup, perfume, body paint, tattoos, etc. Cosmetics used to be made naturally, with real herbs and thought put into it. Now they’re mostly made using chemicals and then tested on animals. Of course nowadays you can go to small shops and organic stores to get non-chemically enhanced products, but for the most part makeup is being made with harmful products. Like tar, lead, mercury, silicon, talc, and other harmful ingredients that can lead to birth defects, allergies and other horrible symptoms.
How it affected the Past:
Egyptians in 10,000 BCE started using used kohl and oils to promote cleanliness, gain a sense of appeals from others and for the purpose of beauty.
Africans throughout the ages have been found to use plants like henna, kohl, aloe vera and coal as makeup and body decor.
Since 300 AD Early Middle easterners had also been know to use kohl and perfume but once more started turning to Islam, the use of makeup decreased, because of religious rules.
3,000 BCE, many Chinese began to use makeup. The wealthy used colours and makeup to enhance’ their beauty, while it was taboo for the lower class to do the same. They used berries, kohl, rice, egg, and lead as tools.
Japanese citizens didn’t participate in the use of makeup until 1500 BCE. They wore lots of makeup made of plants, fruits, and rice.
1300 AD in Europe paler people were known to be higher in class, so many began using powder to become paler. Others began using blush as means of seduction.
How It affects today:
Cosmetics nowadays are used for many things in America. Cosplay, for fun, for romance, etc. Only major problem, (besides how it’s made and tested), is peoples views on it. While most people believe that makeup should only be worn by women, they are incorrect. Makeup is completely gender-neutral, and open to everyone. It’s just generally better for one to use products more naturally made.
