"While many teens have resorted to scrolling through TikTok or binge watching Netflix, others have started thinking about ways they could earn money during these troubling times." -- Aeryon Jackson, 10th
Since the start of the pandemic, all teens and children have had to stay at home. With all this extra time on their hands, they’ve had to find other things to do to occupy their time. While many teens have resorted to scrolling through TikTok or binge watching Netflix, others have started thinking about ways they could earn money during these troubling times.
Starting a business while you’re young can come with a lot of advantages. Since you're young you don’t have many responsibilities, so this leaves you more time to focus on growing and establishing your business. You could start a business based on any of your interests. If you’re an artist and like you draw you could sell your work. If you’re really into earrings, you could make and sell your own. For example, Liza Danielson, who was interviewed by Ideamix, is a senior student at Greenwich High School. Danielson has a tie-dye clothing business that she started on Instagram called Liza’s Closet. In an article called A Young Entrepreneur Takes Off During Quarantine by Ideamix, Liza Danielson talks about why she wanted to start her own business, “She decided to utilize her love for fashion to create her own clothing business to start raising money for racial justice organizations during the beginning of Quarantine.” You don’t need too much experience or money to start your own business. You could do something as simple as selling candy.
Starting a business is a good way to make money and without even having to leave the house! Teens have to spend a lot of time indoors because of COVID. Being cooped up in the house could drain a lot out of you so starting your own business could be a good outlet and way to occupy yourself. Putting time and into something that will greatly benefit you in the future doesn’t sound so bad. It could also be a great boost of self esteem. If you take one of your talents or hobbies, and start making profit from it it’ll feel great knowing that other people love your work just as much as you do.
Starting your own business can expose you to new challenges so it’s important you research the business world. You have to navigate how to find connections. In an article called A Young Entrepreneur Takes Off During Quarantine by Ideamix it states, “In addition to making a difference in her community, Liza has utilized this pandemic to get real experience as an entrepreneur, including learning about marketing, time management, and business strategies.”
Starting your own business could be very stimulating. You get to work from home, be your own boss, and educate yourself while exploring something new. Just think of something you're passionate about and how you want to present it to the world!
