And now, the new meme that has been sweeping not only the Tumblr nation, but the entirety of social media: the Inappropriate Audition Songs meme.

For those of you who are unaware, or simply aren’t “about that life”, Tumblr is a microblogging and social media website. It is quite popular amongst the young adult demographic, and allows users to like and “reblog” others’ posts, as well as make their own. I, personally, use it to share with others my love of TV shows and bands, which is also what many others use the site for. Tumblr is a hub for fandoms - communities of fans.

But Tumblr is also a massive community. Posts can be popular, liked and reblogged by all, and the community will talk about it for months. Tumblr also happens to mass-produce memes, or a type of post or picture that follows a format. Users put their own twist on a meme, and post their own.

One meme that has been quite popular as of late is the “inappropriate audition songs” meme. This meme originated with the format of: “Hi, I’ll be auditioning for the role of (Broadway musical character), and I’ll be singing (Broadway song with an ironic title pertaining to the character’s story).” It has now evolved into “Hi, I’ll be auditioning for the role of (someone/something) and I’ll be singing (ironic pop song)”. Here are some examples:

This meme has lasted longer than most, which usually last from one hour to a whole week. This meme has lasted a couple weeks so far, with celebrities such as Vine star Thomas Sanders, author John Green, and even Taylor Swift getting in on the fun.

If you haven’t checked out Tumblr, go for it! And (if you're feeling nice) don't forget to follow my blog!
