"From an early age, we are taught right from wrong, what things are good and what things are bad. This notion of right and wrong has divided our country in half, with its two-party-system method of looking at politics." - Prophet Ogbebor, 10th grade
From an early age, we are taught right from wrong, what things are good and what things are bad. This notion of right and wrong has divided our country in half, with its two-party-system method of looking at politics.
This system is the biggest regiment in governing a group of people, and even the linguistics of each are so divided. The believe of what is right and what is wrong, and having to pick between the two, like who is better mom or dad, or which do you like better, Nickelodeon or Disney Channel, is the same theory that goes into politics only this time is who do you side with Conservative or Liberal.
America is not the first country to have a two-party system especially with such a great divide. Recently with more voters rights in the US. Politics has become more inclusive to voices or different backgrounds, with a new surge of young voters, showing how dynamic the republican vs. democrats propaganda is.
These aren’t easy conversations to have, but show so much about people's mindset and willingness to compromise right from wrong. According to to a group a research sociologist from the American Sociology Association, “ Sociological research focuses on the social and cultural sources of power and authority, such as wealth, class, race, religion, and ideology, which affect the dynamics of decision-making within and across organizations, states, and international entities.” The general notion of Democratic or Republican is less of a political agenda and more of a psychological history, in which people have characterized themselves due to societal influence and idealism from their environments.
Each party then projects these beliefs into the greater community’s life and laws, in hopes of getting on the supposed right side of whatever society you're a part of good side. Not many people even if they don’t completely agree with a political agenda are inclined to follow due to societal pressure.
Even further, more psychologists have proven that nobody truly thinks for themselves, because as independent and woke we like to claim ourselves to be, none of us have free will—that even the conceived notion to even think we do has been subdued in our heads. And while this is common and understandable, it is dangerous when we put a hierarchy to our belief system over the induced free will of others, and the most common ways that we enact this is through our political views.
We are products of our environment, we have set rules and regulations for our lives due to our political views. Psychologists call this a “Fixed Mindset,” when we are unable to distinguish person from belief. A fixed mindset is the idea that one’s belief system is not of one's own, but a precondition mindset that has been placed upon us. That political party and bias are all due to our fixed mindset and our deep rooted notion of right and wrong and wanting to be on the right side.
These fixed mindsets can be based on so many things, including race, ethnicity, gender, class, location, and education. However, psychologists have pinpointed it to one aspect, environment. This is the main cause for someone's political view, even taking notes of what certain states are more conservative and what ones are more liberal in the United States.
There are patterns and tendencies for reasons that have carried on through generations, through a taught mindset. So when we talk about Democrat and Republican, even which name we put first can tell so much about our preference. We are truly voicing an induced mindset, that what we believe is right—and no matter how hard we try—believe is superior to the alternative.
This is truly a damning thing and if we cannot realize how harmful this is not only for ourselves and the limitations of our political parties how can we ever expect to be a united nation.

To say that no one is a democrat nor republican would be a true physiological statement. “We internalize these concepts of republican or democrat, as our own person,” said Dr. Ditto says in the Washington Post.“ We take these political values to heart, as everyone thinks their right and no one wants to listen to the other side, we all think we know what’s right.”
Both parties think they are right, if you ask a republican, if they think their party stands for is right, they will say yes. Same for democrats. And it’s so funny to think that at some point, “republican” was the more liberal of the two.
The reason why the two party system has worked for so long and is just recently becoming an issue is because for so long there was only one type of person voting: educated white men.
These men had the same agenda across the United States: to maintain their superiority. It wasn’t until more voices were allowed to vote, including women and people of color, that we began to see more of a divide. This “either you’re with me or against me” idea. This is when white America formed another type of segregation, but this time instead of telling people of color “back of the bus,” it’s pick a party. And if you look into the history of black and POC migration, it wasn’t in the south but in the north where they found freedom. And while the south fought for slavery, it remained in the south where many blacks fled, and came to the democratic north, where there was more education for blacks, allowing them to eventually join into politics.
Which naturally became the more liberal, party the democrats and the majority white republicans became conservative and held onto their old ways.
According to Dr. Thomas “the brain has two mode fight and flight, at a point of downtime the brain rests in the hopes of being rejuvenated for when the body goes into fight for an immediate threat.” I feel like it’s good to point out science here because as people we are always looking for fights, we’re always ready to oppose there always has to be an opponent on the other side for us to conquer. That a country built on the back of fighting and division will continue as such. There are many countries out in the world with one party because they know a country's division is their downfall.

If America is the great nation it claims to be, we need to stop hurting or undermining each other, there are too many greater threats to be stuck fighting against each other.
But we’re conditioned as Americans to always fight against each other, it's just in our nature to be vicious and harmful. We are the product of a stolen country, bred on the backs of people suffering. If this is really one nation under god, why can’t this be a nation where women are allowed dominion over their bodies, people are allowed to make a living? Until we learn to love all, with every inch of our hearts, America will never be free.
What those people didn’t know when they built this country on the backs of people in chains was that they were slaves, too. Slaves to their hatred and racism. America will always be in chains until we finally put them off. Starting off with partisanship.

We need to end it, come together in one united nation. No one is right—no set of ideas are right, and for this to work everyone has to have an open mind, because no one is free until everyone's heart, mind and soul are free. Let’s have an end to Partisan, and “ one nation under god.”
Starting with a new America.
