Kayne West, also known as Ye, has had brand deals, including Adidas and Balenciaga, cut ties with him due to the Antisemitic remarks he made online in early November.
These remarks made online were only the start of his offensive actions this fall, which included wearing a White Lives Matter shirt to a fashion show and going on a spree in interviews. As a result, Ye lost millions of dollars to major deals and control of the design of Yeezy. As of now Ye’s Instagram and Twitter are restricted also due to his words said on the platform.
With the sudden lash to a group of people, he's also lost quite a lot of money, maybe even billions of dollars. Forbes estimated his brand deal was worth about 1.5 billion dollars. Since Adidas dropped Ye, his net worth is now estimated at around 400 million after losing the deal, bringing the total lost about 2 billion dollars, after Gap and others joined Adidas. Not only has this hurt his public image and his net worth, but we won't know if he could return after these huge losses.
Ye has apologized for his comments on an episode of Piers Morgan and said “ I will say sorry for the people that I hurt with the ‘death con’ comments.” After apologizing he tried to justify his words against the Jewish community.
This also isn't a new look on Ye, with his problematic behavior over the years, including his online words about Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashians' relationship and stirring drama on the internet. Earlier this year Ye was on a rampage on Instagram making posts about Davidson threatening him and still making his love for Kim known, giving her a car and roses for Valentine's Day when Davidson and Kim were dating.
But after finally getting consequences what happens now? What does it say about us that it took us this long to hold influencers accountable? And moving forward what do we need to do to stop? As a fan base we take too long to hold celebrities accountable we ignore what we see to support them. It only makes them apologize and have them feel bad for their actions. A artist or celebrity shoudnt have a fanbase if they’re problematic and haven’t showed any change.
Ye has apologized but are we taking it? Ye has shown no change with his past controversies. After trying to justify his actions no one should take him serious at all. Ye has done nothing but try to save himself his money and brand.
