2020 has been a crazy year, and it wouldn’t be complete without the stress of a presidential election. Thankfully the waiting is over. On November 7th the Associated Press called the race for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This is huge for many reasons, one of the main ones being that this is the first time a woman, let alone an Asian-African-American woman has been in the White House. This is a big step for equality in politics, and as Harris herself said “I may be the first but I will not be the last.”

In an interview with Elle Magazine, Harris spoke on how she has been passionate about everyone having freedom since she was small, “My mother tells the story about how I’m fussing, and she’s like ‘Baby, what do you want? What do you need?’ And I just looked at her and said, ‘Fweedom’.”
Harris has made many promises to the country, including her notable and deep record of criminal reform. She had promised to spread awareness and take action on how criminal reform unfairly affects the black community.
However, not everyone is the biggest fans of Harris.
“Of course I would prefer Kamala Harris over Mike Pence any day, but she’s not my favorite person either,” stated African-American interviewee who wished to remain anonymous. “I find many people praise Harris just for being a woman minority, and choose to ignore many of the horrible things she has done. She has put Transgender women into men’s prisons for up to 10 years for being affiliated with weed in states it has been illegal, and I could go on and on.”
While this is one very hot take, many people are happy to have more representation in the White House, it is 2020 after all!
All in all I think Harris winning is just what America needed, and I can't wait to see what amazing things she does as our first female Vice President!
