"From Madison beer to your family, I think everyone knows how bad this whole situation is. these celebrities all have something to say about this global disaster!"
-Triece kushner, 7th grade
As everyone probably knows, COVID-19 is getting really really bad. It hit the US really hard and really fast. On April 9th, 453,748 cases were reported in the US, with 19,111 in California, 674 in Alameda County, 724 in San Francisco county, and 7,530 in LA county.
Aside from the more serious stuff, because of COVID 19, a lot of concerts and tours have been postponed until further notice or canceled. Some celebrities *cough cough Farah Nabilah who is still going on her spring vacation and pretending that this all this is not going on cough cough* are completely ignoring this whole thing. Some artist, like Billie Eilish, Madison Beer, Ariana Grande, Cardi b, all care and make sure to speak up about it.
If you don't know who Madison Beer is she is an amazing singer/songwriter that has an audience of over 25.8 million between Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok. Beer has posted a movie list and movies to watch in case you're bored over quarantine. So, if you need a movie to watch just head to Beer’s Instagram.
She has tweeted several times about staying inside and trying to be safe. One read, “There are literal people who can die from your ignorance. Everyone needs to start caring about others and be conscious of your own actions now.”
But the thing that’s received the most attention is a tik tok she made. She used the audio that goes, “what kind of f***ary is this?” and it was captioned “me reading posts from people who are selfishly not realizing how dangerous they are & continuously saying “I'm young and I don’t care if I get the virus.” Then right after that was posted she posted a short song about hope and that we need to stick together. It was amazing.
Second, on our list is Billie Eilish. If you don't know who Billie Eilish is then you definitely live under a rock, Billie Eilish is an 18-year-old singer and songwriter. She is also known for her rants on her Instagram stories. Recently she has done a 15-minute rant about COVID 19 and how to stay safe and how a lot of people are being very irresponsible about this situation. She proceeds to say,
“...it is a really really big deal right now and it's not a joke I know because a lot of us haven't seen it with our eyes what it's been doing and affecting, it's hard to understand that it's real but it really is real and I've seen a lot of like young people out in the world like all over the place like going to the club or going to the beach and going out and hanging out and it's really irresponsible!... I first perceived everything when the first started which was I was just like I don't give a fuk I don't care if I get it, you know? it was like that stupid like State of Mind around like “I don't give a f*** if I get it’ or ‘I'm not going to get it I'm immune to whatever’ everybody is saying ‘I don't care if I get it I don't care’ but it is not just about you. if you do happen to get it or if you're near somebody who gets it and even if you don't get it you can still transfer it to somebody else much weaker and that is completely irresponsible…”
Third on this list is not a technical celebrity, but she has her fair share of followers and fans. Charli D’amelio has almost 50 million followers on Tik Tok and 10 million on Instagram. She is the most successful TikToker. However she uses her fame in good use. She started a thing called “distance dance”, a hashtag that every time it is used, PG&E will donate to Feeding America and Matthew 25, which are two foundations raising money for those affected by COVID-19.
D’amelio has also sent out public service announcements with her sister, Dixie and the rest of her family. She has also joined other TikTok creators such as Avani, Larray, Amelie, and Issa in hosting Zoom calls with anyone who wants to join to provide something to do and see and check in with everyone.
Ariana Grande is another celebrity that cares so much about this worldwide emergency. She makes it very clear that it is very irresponsible to go outside right now. Grande also makes skits to entertain people every day and some to inform people about COVID-19.
Grande recently tweeted “I miss making things, can’t wait to get back to work, but for now, let's please just stay inside.” As well as, “just keep breathin’... six feet away from me.” and my personal favorite, “like your hip hop yoga class and f***ing wait I promise” she later then took to Instagram to say,
“I keep hearing from a surprising amount of statements, like ‘this isn't a big deal’/ ‘we’ll be fine…’ ‘we still have to go about our lives’ and it is blowing my mind I understand if that's how you felt weeks ago but please read about what's going on please don't turn a blind eye. It is incredibly dangerous and selfish To take this situation lightly. The, ‘We will be fine because we're young’ mindset is putting people who aren't young and/ or healthy in a lot of danger you sound stupid and privileged and you need to care more about others. Like. Now, sending love to everyone else, be. Safe.”
Other artist (Alanis Morissette, Andrea Bocelli, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong, Burna Boy, Chris Martin, David Beckham, Eddie Vedder, Elton John, FINNEAS, Idris and Sabrina Elba, J Balvin, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, Kerry Washington, Lang Lang, Lizzo, Maluma, Paul McCartney, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Shah Rukh Khan, and Stevie Wonder. Lady GaGa-) are all grouping together (Virtually) To raise money and spread awareness about COVID-19 and they're raising money and donating it to people in need and charities. According to Lady Gaga's tweet there have been over 35 million dollars raised already. The Evening will start at around 5 on NBC, ABC, iheartmedia and other places. All the stars seem to be super happy to perform in this muti hour show and it seems as if performing in this will give smaller Creators a chance to show their talents too. after there will be a YouTube live stream of every play and added artist too. not much is known about who is going to be performing on the 2nd live stream on YouTube though.
Talking about a group of artists reacting to COVID 19, recently a bunch of celebrities came together and sang “ imagine” a song by John Lennon. If you don't know that song it's basically about staying together and how we need to stick together through tough times. my instant reaction to watching this video was first cringing, and then it was just anger knowing that celebrities live in huge houses and they're telling us we need to stick together! but then I realized that's basically just what people like Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are doing right now! one problem with the video was that these people who live in million-dollar houses and are basically just like Rich celebrities are telling us that we need to stick together! I totally understand where the people who say that this video is like that is coming from, but I can also see where the people who were featured in this video are coming from.
From Madison beer to your mom, I think everyone knows how bad this whole situation is. Please everyone stay inside, wash your hands and stay safe. That is really important right now. I don't think it will be the same when we go back to living our lives after quarantine, but I know that we all have to work together to try to figure out a way to help prevent this virus from getting to everyone. again please stay safe try to make the most out of this horrible time right now.
