"fires in oakland are getting WORSE for SEVERAL REASONS how can you help stop them understand them and and know they affect you mentally."--Elian acle, 6th grade
The fires in California have become a big issue. In 2018 alone there have been 108 deaths from wildfires and there may be more. Most wildfires are made by human activity, most of the time with campfires, target shooting, smoke bombs, gender reveal tricks, and may be from the weather as well.
Humans have caused global warming with pollution which leads to carbon dioxide, which leads to heating the earth like a blanket so you should help the earth and stop pollution. Here are some ways to prevent wildfires.
Number one is don't participate in activities that may cause a fire, and tell authorities about such activities to avoid a fire. Number two is preventing pollution such as littering to help stop global warming, which is a big factor in fires. Number three is to spread this news and help others prevent wildfires.
Wildfires are more frequent now because of global warming and it’s happening rapidly so prevention is more important than ever. The way global warming works is through carbon dioxide acting like a blanket around the earth, heating it up. That's one of the major reasons there are so many fires recently.
Here is an experiment to give an example. If you have 2 jars, 5 plastic bags, and cold water. Fill both of the jars with cold water and then wrap only one of them with a plastic bag and then leave them both in the sun for a while. The jar and water represent the earth and the earth's temperature. The plastic bags represent Carbon dioxide. Once you come back the one with plastic bags will be a bit more warmer, that's because the plastic bags (carbon dioxide) is like a coat to the jar (earth) and heats it up.
Wildfires can also be caused by droughts made by wasting water. Over 3,000 gallons of water is wasted per year—that's enough to fill more than 180 showers! And if there's not enough water, the Earth gets hotter and drier, which can lead to more fires starting.
Having traumatic events with massive wildfires can be very damaging to a person, not just physically but also mentally. Something you might have after a traumatic fire experience is repeated and vivid memories of evacuating and seeing a wildfire approach. You may be more irritable and your moods may change back and forth dramatically. You also may become anxious or nervous and even depressed.
