With the new Avatar movie out, The Way of the Water, and Avatar 3, 4, and 5 already on their way, a new rush of excitement builds up and comes back—just like Miles Quaritch, the villain of Avatar movies one and two.
With Stephen Lang's amazing acting for the role of Quaritch, hopefully we will be seeing him in the next three movies. Although excitement has brought some leaks and release dates, the only information we’ve gotten so far about the next three movies is that they’ve finished filming The Seed Bearer and they have started filming The Tulkin Rider.
James Camerons’ reason for filming The Tulkin Rider so early is simple: Cameron doesn't want the younger characters like Tuk to age in-between films, as sometimes the shootings can take a long time.
Zonthe Jones-Jerachis, a seventh grade Literary Arts student says she liked the first Avatar movie but when the second one came out it made the first movie look so small. She enjoyed the second movie a lot more than the first, saying, “It was so powerful, like when they filmed them swimming in the water, it was just so beautiful.”
Jones-Jerachis also says that since she hasn't watched the first Avatar movie recently, she still remembers much of the movie. “I like the first movie a lot but the second was a lot better in my opinion, and I know that a lot of people might disagree with me.” Jones-Jerachis thinks that at the end of Avatar two when Spider drags Corporel Quaritch out of the water that they were hinting something about Quaritch continuing to be the antagonist in the next movie, The Seed Bearer.
We can all imagine how much work and research Cameron put into Avatar 2. With the amazing visual effects, the amazing scenes, the dramatic moments—for example, when Neteyam died. Same thing with the first Avatar movie. Both movies were amazing, but what about the next three movies?
Vida Saenz, a sixth grade Production Design student, says she prefers the first Avatar. Saenz thinks that the second was too much. “One thing was happening, and then another thing was happening; it was just really confusing,” she said. Saenz thinks that the only thing interesting to her in this second movie was that the forest people had found the water people. Saenz hopes that the next three movies will be about the Avatars reuniting, but overall she would rate the first avatar a seven out of ten, and the second a five out of ten.
The third movie, The Seed Bearer, will be once again, focusing on Jake Sully and his family. Although The Seed Bearer comes out in 2024, much excitement and eagerness has risen with how much joy The Way of the Water brought audiences, even though some think The Way Of The Water was “Rotten Tomatoes.” Many others think that the second movie was amazing.
Planned to be released in 2026, Avatar 4, The Tulkin Rider, once again will be featuring Jake Sully and his family. Not much information has been leaked so nobody is too sure what Avatar 4 may be about beyond that.
The Quest For Eywa, Avatar 5, is planned to release in 2028. Like Avatar 4 and Avatar 6, we are still not sure about any information, but we do know about full release dates. Avatar 2-5, and possibly 6 should’ve been released from 2021-2027, but due to the pandemic the movies were delayed. Luckily, they were only delayed one year.
When you think about it, it's actually good that there have been almost no leaks, because then the movies would be spoiled and nobody wants that. The movies need to be exciting, and are meant to make you nervous. And with multiple leaks, you won't be able to experience the excitement and tension, or the popcorn.
“So far, the only things Cameron has alluded to on the record is that Avatar 3 will be about the Sully family, with a focus on the kids,” says polygon. “Weirdly, we know a lot more about this one than we do about Avatar 4. According to Cameron’s most recent comments, he thinks Avatar 5 will bring the action to Earth.” Based on what polygon is aware of, “This sequel (Avatar 5) is the least far along, and may not even be completely written yet.”
Cameron told Variety, “When I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better. When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, the creative executive over the films, wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy f—.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?”
So if you think Avatar: The Way of the Water was weird, buckle up for Avatar: The Tulkin Rider.
