"Ever wondered where to get a quick snack in Oakland? Here’s what OSA students and teachers think."--Ava Ford, 6th grade

According to OSA Literary Arts 6th grader, Zara Quiter, Boichik Bagels in Berkeley is their favorite place to eat. Quiter likes Boichik because they boil their bagels, which is traditional, while most bagel shops bake them. Boiling bagels “makes them soft and fluffy which makes them taste way better,” says Quiter. Boichik Bagels provide a nice staff, clean tables, and well priced food. As far as pet peeves regarding other cafes, Quiter hates a long wait time, or if the staff is rude or messes up an order. Quiter’s go-to order at Boichik Bagels is an everything bagel with cream cheese because it is flavorful and salty.

Next, Literary Arts 7th grader, Poppy Zaiger, recommends Grand Lake Kitchen for its hot chocolate and avocado toast. Grand Lake Kitchen provides a large variety of food and drinks. Zaiger does not like it if a place to eat looks dirty “because it is unappetizing,” says Zaiger, or if the food served is not what it says it would be. What Zaiger looks for in a cafe is nice decoration and also how long the wait would be.

Last up, if you're looking to relax and hang out with friends, high school and middle school math teacher at OSA Brenda Wagner Highly suggests the Terrace Cafe. The Terrace Cafe has great outdoor seating, and provides a quiet environment for relaxation. Wagner looks for a place with a wide variety of food and drinks. “When at a cafe, I want to feel relaxed for hours at a time,” says Wagner. The Terrace Cafe has a quiet seating area. Wagner's pet peeves with cafes are when staff rush you to eat and leave, or if the environment is loud.
