"do you want to get out, but don't know where to go? well if that's so, here are some fun hikes to go on this year."--Zoe deetz, 7th grade
These days Corona has us cooped up in our houses, but never fear, for I am here! With these fun hikes, you’ll never be bored again. (I mean unless you don’t take my advice.) The first hike is the Bay Trail at the Hayward Interpretive Center. Let’s go!
Hayward Interpretive Center
These salt water marshlands are home to many creatures. Though the Interpretive Center may be closed, the trails are better than ever. The trail is a gravel path that is lined with pickleweed. Pickleweed is a plant that absorbs the salt water in the marshland. It is edible, but I would recommend rinsing it off before eating ;) . The Bay Trail, to say the least, is a very long trail, over 350 miles. But my favorite place to go is seashell beach. It’s a tiny beach that is further out on the trail, about 1.5 miles out. This trail permits bikes, but no dogs unfortunately. This is not the only place you can access the Bay Trail, but I don’t know any of the others.

This is a hike that is full of art. Right when I started the hike I saw painted rocks, there were also cement slabs that have sketches of African Americans who have passed away at the hands of police violence. A couple examples are Briana Taylor and George Floyd. At this hike there is really no one designated trail, you just choose which route you want to take. I took the route that led to a beach full of sculptures made of recycled trash. It seemed odd but it was really cool. As I walked out a little further I found a tree with a rope swing on it. I could go on and on about all of the wonderful art but I feel you should discover it for yourself.
I also went on a couple other hikes here is some information on them:
Lake Temescal
Lake Temescal Recreation Area: This is a nice lake hike looping around the lake. Normally I would suggest going for a swim but the lake is off limits.
Candlestick Point
Candlestick Point State Recreation Area: This hike has great scenery. When you hike upward there is a stunning view of the ocean.
Coyote Point
Coyote Point Recreation Area: All I have to say is I have been here so many times and it never gets old. The air there is so fresh, and it’s a really fun hike.
Lake Chabot
Lake Chabot: I go to Lake Chabot at least twice a month. Yet I haven’t finished all of the trails! You can also rent boats and go fishing at the lake.
