Ice cream is a fun treat that many enjoy year round. Especially in the Bay Area, because of our weak winters. I spoke with four people about their favorite ice cream place(s) in the Bay Area.
Fentons Creamery
Fentons is a Bay Area favorite, that just so happens to be 7th grader Mackenzie Luna’s favorite as well. “I like it [Fentons] because their ice cream is really creamy and flavorful, it's not too sweet or too plain,” Luna said. Fentons is located on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland California, and has been in business for 100 years. It opened in 1894 in a different location, then moved to Piedmont Ave, where it has been since 1922.
“We started going there when we moved here, we were trying to find new places and we found Fentons and we have been going there ever since,” Luna said regarding her experience with Fentons. She also told me about her favorite things to get when they go for ice cream, “I usually get the raspberry swirl ice cream and the strawberry ice cream.”

Yogofina Frozen Yogurt
Yogofina is a frozen yogurt shop that opened a location in Montclair Village in 2015, and is also a favorite of 7th grader Abi Ambrose’s. “I found this place when I was 5 years old,” Ambrose said, adding that she went a lot with her mom when it first opened. When asked why she likes Yogofina, she said “I like it because they have good ice cream and lots of toppings to choose from.” Speaking of toppings, she told me about her favorite thing to get when she goes, “Vanilla and Cotton candy ice cream with marshmallows, sprinkles, and caramel drizzle.”

Flavor Brigade
Flavor Brigade is one of my all time favorite ice cream shops. It is located on Fruitvale and MacArthur Boulevard by Dimond Park. They have Italian ice, custard, and ice cream. When I went I got green apple and blue raspberry italian ice, and it was so good! I just found it recently, within the last few months. I went with my family, my sister and mom got ice cream and they both really liked it, and my dad got a thing that they make in store called a Wookie Cookie, which he really enjoyed. I liked it because the flavors were very strong in a good way.

As You Wish
“I think my favorite is either Flavor Brigade or As You Wish,” contemplated Lit Arts 8th grader, Drax Richardson. When asked why he liked As You Wish, Richardson responded, “I like As You Wish because of all their toppings. Also a lot of their flavors change every week.” As You Wish is located on Solano and Cornell in Albany. “My order usually depends on what they have, but one they have pretty constantly is Italian Tart (I think that’s what it’s called) and it’s pretty good.” Richardson said when I asked about his order. Richardson also spoke about how As You Wish was close to where he lived and how he found it in “Either 2016-2017.”

Loard’s Ice cream
Finally, we have Loard’s Ice Cream, which is 7th grader Nathan DuBois’s favorite ice cream shop. Loards Ice cream is located in the South Shore Center in Alameda. DuBois told me that he and his family found Loard’s when they went to paint at Color Me Mine, which is right across the street. When I visited Lords it gave off 60’s ice cream parlor vibes. It’s very cute and you will know when you're close because it smells amazing! When I asked DuBois why he likes Loard’s so much he said, “There are so many options to choose from,” and out of those options Nathan said he choses, “bubble gum or cookies and cream.”
So there you have it! I definitely recommend each and every one of these shops. Just to give you a clear list of all the places, there is, Fentons Creamery (Piedmont Ave, Oakland), Yogofina Frozen Yogurt (Medau Pl and Mountain Blvd, Montclair), Flavor Brigade (Fruitvale Ave, Upper Diamond), As You Wish Frozen Yogurt (Solano Ave and Cornell Ave, Albany), and Loard's Ice Cream (South Shore Center, Alamida). Thank you for reading and happy eating!
