2021 was a rough year for everyone, but there were good things that happened in the year as well. We had amazing music, shows, and podcasts. While not that many people think about podcasts, or maybe think of them as boring or for old people, podcasts are actually really interesting. There are all kinds of podcasts for different people. Here, you are going to see the top 5 podcasts of 2021 ranked, in my opinion.
According to Prestige Online, “The top 5 podcasts of 2021 according to Spotify, are The Joe Rogan Experience which is in first place, Crime Junkie as number three, TED Talks Daily as number 4, and The Daily, taking it up to fifth place.” Yes, I know I skipped second place, but due to it not being the best age-appropriate podcast, I suggest an alternative podcast called Office Ladies.
1. The Joe Rogan Experience. The Joe Rogan Experience is a podcast hosted by comedian Joe Rogan. “Best podcast ever, JRE [Joe Rogan Experience] runs YouTube and Podcasting,” stated a comment on IMDB. The hugely-popular podcast features comedians, actors, musicians, MMA fighters, authors, artists, and others, and has completed more than 1,770 episodes so far, according to the Khalee Times. *The Joe Rogan Experience is a Spotify exclusive podcast.*
Review: I listened to an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, and here were my thoughts. It was pretty interesting, lots of interviewing and discussion, but to me it’s just not my kind of podcast, since every episode has a different guest, and talks about different things. But there are many other people who come on the show in every episode, and you always have a chance of knowing who the guest is. There are also different questions that the guests get asked and it is cool getting to hear their answers. 4/10
2. Crime Junkie. Crime Junkie is a crime podcast hosted by Ashley Flowers. A listener of the podcast on Chartable stated, “This is the best podcast I have ever listened to!!!” Crime Junkie is a weekly true crime podcast dedicated to giving you a fix, according to the official website, CrimeJukie.com.
Review: Here are my thoughts on the first episode of Crime Junkie. It starts with music that immediately pulls you in, and the way that the host, Ashley Flowers, talks it just makes you really interested in the story. I had paused the first episode, thinking I had listened to about 15 minutes, then found out it was 30 minutes already, that’s how good this podcast really is, really sucks you in. 10/10
3. TED Talks Daily. TED Talks Daily is a podcast about thought-provoking ideas on every subject imaginable, from Artificial Intelligence to Zoology, and everything in between -- given by the world's leading thinkers and creators, according to the official website, TEDtalksdaily. This podcast is owned by TED Audio Collective, with American Broadcaster Elise Hu as the host. “It’s a podcast that is good to listen to anytime and is interesting for adults and kids alike,” a listener wrote on Chartable.com.
Review: Here are my thoughts on TED Talks Daily. I think it was a really interesting podcast, but the first episode was not a topic that appealed to me. The episode was titled, “3 rules for a zero-carbon world.” I think that different topics appeal to different people, but this one was not a topic that I think would appeal to people who are more into crime podcasts or fantasy. But, the first episode [along with many other episodes] are very short, 10-20 minutes, and for a regular podcast, is pretty short. 5/10
4. The Daily. The Daily is a podcast by The New York Times and hosted by Journalist Michael Barbaro. “I love and look forward to this podcast everyday! It provides me with a deeper understanding of the most important news stories. The journalists are professional, articulate, humanistic and empathic all at the same time. (Michael B is my favorite—an amazing interviewer.),” wrote a listener on Chartable.com.
Review: The Daily is a very good podcast. It is very informative and it shows the news, except it goes deeper. With the episodes about Ukraine and Russia, they had many reporters across Ukraine, and they spoke about what it was like being in a war. The podcast will help you understand more of what is happening in the world, sometimes this podcast can get really deep into things. 8/10.
5. Suggestion: Office Ladies. Office Ladies is a podcast by Earwolf and hosted by actors Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer. The two starred in the show The Office as Pam Beesly/Halpert [Jenna Fischer], and Angela Martin [Angela Kinsey]. Each week, Jenna and Angela will break down an episode of The Office and give exclusive behind-the-scenes stories that only two people who were there, can tell you, according to the official website, officeladies.com. “I’ve loved The Office since the beginning and it’s been so much fun listening to Jenna and Angela discuss episodes and then going back to rewatch with my husband. The podcast is extremely well done, informative and a joy to listen to. Thank you, Office Ladies!” wrote a listener on chartable.com.
Review: I love The Office, and having a podcast that talks about what happened behind the scenes is awesome, especially with two of the actors on the show. In different episodes of the podcast, they bring in special guests, other actors who were on the show, and it was really interesting hearing their stories. If you like The Office, I would suggest listening to this. 9/10.
