"It’s that time of year again: the Emmy awards. Here is info on the Nominees, predictions, time and hosts." --Mackenzie Luna, 7th Grade
It’s that time of year again: the Emmy awards. The Emmys are awards given out to honor excellence, as well as achievement in the television industry. Aside from the awards themselves, there are always funny bits in between presentations, insane celebrity reactions, and music performances. It’s always fun to hear when one of your favorite shows is nominated, especially when they win.
The Emmys will take place on Monday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m Pacific Time, and 8 p.m Eastern Time. This year, NBC will air the ceremony. However, you can also watch on Peacock.
Last year, the Emmys were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The previous year, 2021, the awards were hosted by actor Cedric the Entertainer.
This year, a 6 time Emmy nominee, Kenan Thompson is hosting. Thompson is an actor on the show Saturday Night Live (SNL), Kenan, Trolls and Trolls 2, Hubie Halloween, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and so many other productions.
“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC – my longtime network family – makes it even more special,” Thompson said in an interview with Deadline. “Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows.”
Thomson has also recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame, located on Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles.
There are many different categories for which shows and movies can receive awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Limited Series, Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, and so many others. Netflix, Apple Tv+, Disney Plus, Hulu, HBO MAX and others, are among the streaming services in which shows and movies have been nominated.
This year, many Marvel series have been nominated, including Loki, episode 5, Journey Into Mystery. This episode was nominated in the category of outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series. There have also been other Marvel nominees, like several different episodes of Moon Knight, starring Oscar Issacs. The 9 episode series What If..? has been nominated as well.
Now a favorite among many people, Stranger Things. The specific episode is Chapter Seven: The Massacre At Hawkins Lab. The 4 season series has been nominated for about 13 Emmys alone this year, and has had multiple episodes nominated.
An Apple Tv+ show, has been nominated for approximately 20 Emmys this year. This show is Ted Lasso, starring Jason Suedeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein and others.

There are many good shows this year that have been nominated, but Cb Omand, a 7th grade Literary Arts student at Oakland School for the Arts, gave feedback about the nominations.
“I feel a lot of the awards are getting more drama than award shows. But I also think celebrities will not get in the spotlight unless it's a good spotlight,” Omand weighed in regarding the incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
What are the shows or movies you are hoping to win? “I honestly haven't thoroughly looked at the list,” Omand said, “but I'm sure when I watch the Emmys I pick something from a category. However, I did see Stranger Things there so I do want them to win of course, because it’s an amazing show.”
“I'm not gonna lie, I haven't watched the Emmys in previous years, but I’m going to convenience my family to watch it,” Omand answered if they would watch the Emmys.
As for who Omand thinks should have been nominated this year, they responded, “I feel like, I don’t really know, Caleb McLauclin, his performance was great, and Sadie Sink, but both of them did amazing in the show [Stranger Things].”
“My favorite actors that got nominated are, Zendaya, Bill Hader, Andrew Garfield, and Sebastian Stan,” Omand described personal favorite actors who were nominated, then continued, “My favorite shows are, Top chef, Queer Eye, Stranger Things and some Marvel shows.”
Severance is a show that is streaming on Apple Tv+ starring Adam Scott. Now, personally I think that this show will win an Emmy. I also think that the shows Only Murders in the Building, Loki or Moon knight, Ted Lasso, Stranger Things, Killing Eve, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are sure to win. They are beautifully written shows, and they really have amazing actors and actresses, as well as graphics.
