"Anything could be expected in the movie, since the story of Shang-Chi hasn’t been told often. Shang-Chi isn’t as well known as other superheroes like Iron Man or the Hulk but there is a possibility future Marvel projects will change that."-- Jif Dillemuth, 8th grade
Postponed several times due to the pandemic and supposedly attempted to start in the 80s, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been a long awaited film for Marvel fans. In a brief history; Shang-Chi is a Marvel superhero and has been since 1973. The Kung Fu expert was based on Bruce Lee, and was originally the secret son to Fu Manchu, a villain Marvel bought the rights to. But when they lost the rights to him, all it took was a plot twist to fix it up. Turns out Shang-Chi’s father was using the alias Fu Manchu all along—he was really Zheng Zu, an ancient sorcerer.
Shang-Chi is Marvel’s first ever movie starring an asian protagonist. Getting rid of harmful stereotypes in the original comics was a crucial step toward writing the screenplay, according to the article “Simu Liu suits up in first look at Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Writer Dave Callaham and director Deston Cretton were eager to do so. “There are aspects of that portrayal of him that maybe could feel a little stereotypical. So when we first started to map out who this character was and what his journey was going to be over the course of this film, we were all very sensitive to not have it go into stereotypical territory.” Simu Liu who stars Shang-Chi states.
This will also be the fourth Marvel movie that is shot in San Francisco. Right after Venom, Ant-Man, and its sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Muni was featured in the preview as Simu Liu as Shang-Chi and Awkwafina playing his best friend Katy fight villains inside of the bus. The Muni battle scene is then taken under Stockton Tunnel and ending up in Ghiradelli Square.
Anything could be expected in the movie, since the story of Shang-Chi hasn’t been told often.. Shang-Chi isn’t as well known as other superheroes like Iron Man or the Hulk but there is a possibility future Marvel projects will change that. This movie will come to movie theaters exclusively, and not straight to premiere access on Disney Plus.
