Lizette: Tell me what you guys have done on the bulletin board? (where their artwork is inside the class and out in the main hallway area)
Nathaniel: We did the snow man on the board, mine is outside! Want to go see later?
Helen: I made a big snowman!
Zion: I made a green tree too and a snowman like Helen!

I regularly volunteer at the Cesar Chavez Child Development Center (preschool) in the bilingual class where many of the students are minorities who speak a language other than English. This past Monday on December 2, 2018 as I helped the younger children work on their two day Christmas reef projects in Ms. Holly’s class along with the two assistant teachers, Ms. Genie and Ms. Elvira, I talked amongst the children about their Christmas experience(s).
Lizette: Which one of the holiday art is your favorite so far?
Nathaniel: The snowman because mine is the biggest!
Romeo: I made the best Christmas tree but the snowman was the funnest since it looks coolest.
Helen: The snowman,oh no the Christmas tree!
Zion: My wreath was the bestest out of the others ones.
A few activities the teachers thought the children would enjoy creating were: Snow men, Christmas Trees, Snowflakes, and Christmas Wreaths. Every year, the teachers do arts and crafts with their children in order to improve their muscle memory and small motor skills which are crutial in kingergarden.
(Below you can find a picture of the Christmas Wreath the children began the day I hung out with them! This was before they got to color and add a little PIZZAZ to it!)

Since so many of the preschoolers found the Christmas Tree art project "the funnest", here are easy instructions to make your own!
Lizette: What do you do for Christmas from Santa?
Nathaniel: I want a ps4 and all the skins for fortnite. My favorite skin is on my xbox my mommy bought it for me its yellow but it has no glider but a backpack
Owen: A dino, a green one
Jeremy: oh me too owen. I want a dino a t rex and to see some snowflakes cause they always look like balls not like in movies
Lizette: What color t rex do you want Jeremy?
Jeremy: Um... I want green too so it can match my new pair of shoes! They light up when I run so i can run faster with my dino

Jeremy’s mention of snowflakes reminded me of one of their past art projects that involved making their own unique snowflakes with coffee filters. This particular project is one that has been going on for several years because all the kids find it the most enjoyable.
Lizette: Who are you with for Christmas? (What family are you happy to see?)
Nathaniel: Much people come to my house for our Christmas party. My Mommy makes me wear ugly shirts that make me itch!
Romeo: *smiles and laughs at Nathaniel's response*
Owen: I do a christmas party too w my family Nathaniel, we are so cool!
Dian: with my family too, we even play games and eat lots of food.
Helen: I eat lots of food too! My family all brings different food.

After spending the afternoon with some of the most exciting preschoolers, I learned that each and everyone of them loves Christmas because they get to see their family and eat amazing food! Hearing these children's stories reminds me to remain grateful that I too am blessed enough to be surrounded by people I love during the holidays.
