During holiday time many people like to curl up on the couch and watch movies. Below are reviews of three Christmas movies available on Netflix this holiday season.
Movie Title: Christmas Inheritance (2017)
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Review:
Ellen Langford, a rich heiress to a multimillion dollar company from New York, goes incognito as Ellie London in the small town, Snow Falls. This is the town where her father and his friend, Uncle Zeke start up their company, Home and Hearth Gifts. She is forced to stay in an inn and get to know the townspeople while she waits to give Uncle Zeke the Christmas letters, a long standing tradition. While she is there she learns important lessons about the importance of charity and why kindness is so good for the soul.
Charity plays a big part in Ellie's growth throughout the movie. In the beginning, Ellie ruins a charity event and then refers to giving money to the homeless as selfish. With the help of the townspeople, she learns how to be selfless. After learning that Jake, a town boy who works at the inn, doesn’t have a lot for the silent auction she comes up with an idea to save the auction. She also runs out on a dangerously freezing cold night to save a homeless man.
In regards to the filmmaking, throughout the movie, the background music fits the mood and appearance of each scene. The transitions from scene to scene were also very effective in creating a cheerful and sense of friendship.
At the beginning of this movie, it seemed to be the same story where a big city girl meets a small town boy. A new backstory, with the same plot. In every Christmas movie, however, there is a true meaning of Christmas, and in this movie that true meaning is family tradition, friendship, and love.
Ellie follows the family tradition of bringing the Christmas letters to Snow Falls. She is kind and compassionate to everyone in town and also becomes close friends with many people. Not only does she learn what actual love feels like but she also learns that love is worth all the risks. It is a very sweet, cheesy, and heartwarming Christmas movie that would be perfect for any family movie night.
Movie Title: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (2000)
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Review:
We all know the grinch as someone you’re scared of as a kid, but as you get older you begin to understand. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas is a heartwarming story about finding the true meaning of Christmas and learning to love it. The grinch is a social outcast who hates Christmas and lives on a mountain outside Whoville, a town of ‘whos’ who all love Christmas. With the help of a who girl, Cindy Lou, the grinch and everyone else in Whoville learns to love Christmas without all the gifts and decorations.
In the beginning of the movie all the whos believe that christmas is about gifts and decorations. They slowly begin learning that it’s about something more important -- family. This movie is great for adults and children and as you rewatch it, you notice more “adult” themed jokes that may have flew right over your head as a child, and will probably fly over the children your watching the movie with.
Movie Title: The Nutcracker (1993)
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Review:
The Nutcracker on Netflix allows you to watch ballet from the comfort of your home. This is a very sweet story with amazing dancers and actors. It is a ballet about a young girl named Marie that is gifted a nutcracker by her uncle Drosselmeier. On the night of Christmas Eve magical things begin happening and her nutcracker turns into her prince. With the help of her prince she visits an enchanted land and meet the sugar plum fairy and all her delights. It’s a very well made movie with a lovey story but you may fall asleep while watching it.
