Anorak Patch isn't just a catchy band, they’re all extremely talented with how well they play their instruments and how well their songs are written. -- Bee ahlers, 9th grade
If you’re looking for a new indie rock band to jam to, you should check out Anorak Patch, an all-teen band from the UK.
There’s Effie Lawrence, who’s grown up in a very musical household. She’s been singing her whole life, and she recently got into playing the keyboard. Luca Ryland and his older brother, Oscar Ryland, have both been playing their instruments for a couple of years. Luca is the drummer for Anorak Patch, and Oscar is the lead guitarist. Eleanor Helliwell had only been playing bass for a couple of months before Anorak Patch was formed. She was a little nervous when they asked her if she could be part of the band, but they eventually convinced her and she gained more confidence in the process. Together, they make unique and personalized music with not only catchy melodies but with heartfelt and relatable meanings behind their songs.
Anorak Patch was started when Effie’s dad, who runs an annual music day at their local pub, asked her if she wanted to play. Her dad is also an experienced musician, which is helpful for the band to have an easily accessible musical outlet. Since all of the members knew each other years before the band was even formed, they eventually started to play at the shows and release music on their own. Their name was one of many names they were deciding on for their band, but they all liked Anorak Patch the most out of the rest of the ideas.
They aren’t just a catchy band, they’re all extremely talented with how well they play their instruments and how well their songs are written. It’s really inspiring to read more about them and see how some of them are only a couple of years older than me.
They currently have 5 singles, consisting of "Beans," "Irate","6 Week Party," and "Blue Jeans." Lastly, their fifth single, "Delilah," came out October 26th on the music streaming platforms Spotify, Apple Music, and Sound Cloud. The song currently has over 20,000 streams on Spotify. They got a lot of attention from "Delilah," which helped grow the band’s reputation. Their genre is mostly rock which shows up in all of their songs. Some of them start off relaxing, and then they bust out the drums and electric guitar, while others start right off the bat, adding a lot of energy to their songs to keep you going throughout the day.
Their song "Irate" is about the pandemic. All of the lyrics are very relatable for all of us, as we’ve lived through and are still living through the Covid-19 pandemic, which has affected all of our lives tremendously. The chorus of “Irate” has the lyrics "In masks and gloves, he takes a break from the world he loves." And right there, they’ve expressed how all of us feel in one sentence.
One of their biggest inspirations for their music, which they’ve seen many times in concert, is called Black Midi who I’ve listened to before and I can definitely see the similarity between the bands with the sound and rhythm. Black Midi has a lot of originality in their songs that brings an exciting element into listening to their songs. Packed with many fake endings, you're entertained while you’re listening.
All of their songs are available on Sound Cloud, Spotify, and Apple Music. You can find them on Instagram: @anorakpatch and on YouTube: Anorak Patch. Click here to check out their Sound Cloud.
And last but not least, don’t forget to stream their newest song, "Cousin Sam." The band is very excited for everyone to hear it!
