"With a mix of so many movies and TV shows, everyone is really exhausted with Marvel. These new movies are doing a lot worse than the old ones." -- Drax richardson (8th grade)
Since the most recent Avengers movie in August of 2019, there's been a decline in the quality of the things Marvel Studios produces. While we’ve had some great TV shows like Wandavision (2021), Loki (2021), and the What If (2021) series, but we’ve also had some bad ones, for example, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022). And there’s only more shows coming. We’re already in phase five of Marvel's big plan for the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), which will last until 2024, and then phase 6 lasting from 2025 to 2026. We have these two phases confirmed, but we might also end up having more phases lasting until 2033. So that’s plenty of media to come.
Just since Avengers: End Game (2019), we've had Black Widow (2020), Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), Spiderman: No Way Home (2021), Doctor Strange and Multiverse of Madness (2022), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). That’s a lot of movies, but does anyone really need this many?
Reeghan Walsh, 8th grader at OSA, said, “I would be willing to wait a longer time for a higher quality Marvel movie or show, rather than so many at once.” Walsh talks about how the CGI in Love and Thunder really ruined it for her. The idea of the story could have worked out well, but the execution was bad. They tried to get it out so fast that it didn’t look good. The storytelling was also very weird. It was told from the point of view of Korg, a character we meet in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and a close friend of Thor’s. It’s childish in a sense but did not at all fit the dark story it was telling. “They’re overworking their workers,” says Walsh. And because of that, they weren’t able to produce a good movie.

Movies and tv shows
With a mix of so many movies and TV shows, everyone is really exhausted with Marvel. These new movies are doing a lot worse than the old ones. Quantumania (2023) got 48% rotten tomatoes, compared to the previous Antman and the Wasp (2018) movie getting 87% rotten tomatoes. That’s a pretty huge difference. And while many will argue it’s just critics being critics, Quantumania got 447.4 million globally while Ant-Man and the Wasp got 622 million globally. That’s the people talking.
Now the TV shows are a whole other thing. They’ve all gotten very mixed responses. Both Wandavision and Loki seemed to be really huge hit while She Hulk… not so much. Walsh says she thinks the older TV shows are better. “The acting doesn’t feel as wacky. With Wandavision the acting was supposed to feel wacky… and I enjoyed that.” For Wandavision (91% on Rotten Tomatoes), as you learn throughout the story, it’s supposed to be weird, it’s supposed to make you a little uncomfortable and it does the job quite well. Walsh also enjoyed The Falcon and Winter Soldier (84% Rotten Tomatoes), saying, “It was normal Marvel! They also had a good dynamic.” Unfortunately shows like She Hulk did not receive that same praise. It's quite funny, She Hulk received a decent Rotten Tomatoes review, 80%, but the Google review is 2. 2 stars. Quite the opposite of what Quantumania went through.

phases
It might not be very well known, but for all of Marvel's movies and TV shows that are all part of phases which will are all part of a big whole in the MCU. While I won’t go over all the phases and what’s included in them, I will go over the one Marvel is actively working on, and the ones to come. Marvel most recently finished up the Infinity saga which included all the movies and TV shows in phase one, two, and three and went from 2008 to 2019. Currently, we’re in the fifth phase with only Quantumania being out. We can expect plenty more things, though, in the coming months. For phase six (which isn’t even the last phase) we’ll have a lot of different movies and TV shows. People are expecting that with Deadpool 3 coming out then the X-men will soon be much more involved in the MCU.
