Gazzy Garcia, mostly known as “Lil Pump”, recently co-released a song with Kanye West, featuring comedian Adele Givens, entitled “I Love It”. To be honest, the song is nothing special. Just a trap beat with some excessive base, repetitive lyrics, and a continuous theme in which both rappers talking about women whom they describe in the chorus as a “fucking hoe”.
The song itself couldn’t take credit for its 130 million views, but the very strange music video that represents it can. The bulks of the video includes both rappers walking down a grey, lighted hall. They are dressed in big blocky pastel clothing, resembling characters from an online game called Roblox, which is made fun of very frequently on social media for it’s low graphics and bad gameplay. The two follow Adele Givens down the hall, looking up at her very mischievously. Adele moves by following her hips, while the two rappers are behind her, spinning and hopping.
The music video alone has already gotten over 130 million views in only the first week. Although it is very career-defining for Lil Pump to make a song with a hip hop Legend like Kanye West, some speculate this may mark the decline of Lil Pump’s popularity. The song did get many views, however the song’s popularity may originate from West’s appearance and the music video’s pop culture fame.
Garcia started rapping when a friend of his, Smokepurpp, played him a beat he produced. Garcia really liked the beat, and began rapping over it, talking about guns, drugs, and nobody believing in him. He picked up the name “Lil Pump”, and named the song “Lil Pump.” The song gained a lot of listens on South Florida’s soundcloud, so Lil Pump followed it up with other songs that featured a similar heavy bass and “ouu” sounds, recognizable by being very short, fast, and clear.
Lil Pump’s sound grew to be more known the more songs he dropped on Soundcloud. Songs like “Elementary” and “Drum$tick”. Lil Pump quickly ranked up the listens on Soundcloud and dropped other hits such as “D-Rose” and “Boss”, songs that got him over 80 million views—all at the age of 17. With his trademark repetitive lyrics and yelling of ad-libs, Lil Pump refined his image to become a name to reckon with.

Lil Pump finally became mainstream after dropping “Gucci Gang”, which currently has over 750 million views on YouTube. He went on to sign to Warner Bros. Records, but had to cut it due to a minor issue, for he was only 16 years old and there were some problems with the legalities. Billboard said, “But earlier this year, attorney John Bracca issued a notice pointing out the age and certification issue, asserting that it nullified the deal.”
After they worked it out, Lil Pump did end up signing it and dropped his first album which he creatively titled, Lil Pump. This was an album that featured very famous rappers, including Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, and his friend Smokepurpp. The album cover was a cartoon drawing of Gazzy riding a jet ski, which is a reference to his Instagram name, Lil Pump Jetski.
Gazzy tried to follow up this album with his single “Essketit”, named after his catchphrase that first originated when Lil Pump was sitting in his Rolls Royce and shoots a gun off out the window, yelling very loudly, “Essketit”.
Pump waited a month before dropping his song “Drug Addicts”, which he tried to make more relevant by having Charlie Sheen in the music video. The song had only achieve 6.4 million listens on Soundcloud, compared to his other music. Lil Pump had a great running start in his questionable but rapid popularity, but he has begun to fall off. He does collaborations with other great artists in the rap game and gets carried to the top of the billboard. Lil Pump brings nothing different, unique, or even remotely talented to rap fans. Nothing.
