"fans of KENDRICK Lamar are anticipating his next album drop SOON. Lamar has been relatively reserved online for the LAST year or so."--LUCIEN FROMMER-KINZER, 8TH GRADE
Rapper Kendrick Lamar’s last release was in 2021, “Family Ties” featuring Baby Keem. Prior to that, he worked on the Black Panther soundtrack. Otherwise, fans of Lamar are anticipating his next album drop soon. Lamar has been relatively reserved online for last the year or so.
However, in August 2021, Lamar Tweeted a link, entitled “nu thoughts,” which hinted at a release and plans to leave longtime label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). “As I produce my final TDE album,” Lamar wrote in his post, “I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.”
Lamar says this in the same article, “I spend the whole year just thinking about how I’m gonna execute a new sound, I can’t do the same thing over and over. I need something to get me excited. I see you get frustrated sometimes because you want some new shit.“
Lamar's next album drop will be in 2022. But before that, he is slated to perform at the Superbowl Halftime show with Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Eminem, and Mary J Blige. I also personally think he will do one with old school rappers because of meeting them at the Superbowl.
In the past, he’s does a lot of collabs with a lot of new generation rappers like Baby Keem or Rihanna and countless of other rappers. Unlike a lot of other rappers, he makes a lot of collabs with women such as SZA and Sia, which in my opinion is how it should be, and one of the many reasons why I love Kendrick Lamar. I believe Lamar might try a different style for this new album, as mentioned in a recent TickPick article. “Could the “new sh*t” Kendrick is referring to in i-D be the “rock sounds” Werde mentioned in January?”
Normally Lamar plays with his voice—like sometimes he’s calm, and sometimes he raps at an Eminem speed with a more melodic voice instead. But I’ve never heard him do something where he's aggressive without a melodic voice. He’ll get really aggressive but he'll use a melodic voice like in “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” or “Mona Lisa” with Lil Wayne. So maybe he’ll do one with rock music, featuring heavier drums and electric guitar, and a raspy voice—which I would love to hear.
According to my dad, he says that since Snoop now owns Death Row Records, he bets that Lamar will join. Others speculate that he’ll form his own label. Only time will tell.
