"The Christmas season is known as one of the most wonderful times of the year all over the world. It is a time were people get to laugh, eat, bond, decorate the house, celebrate the birth of Jesus, get your christmas tree, and listen to Christmas music!"-- Justin walton
The Christmas spirit has finally arrived! There is only 8 more days until Christmas, and words can't describe how excited I am for the big day. The Christmas season is known as one of the most wonderful times of the year all over the world. It is a time were people get to laugh, eat, bond, decorate the house, celebrate the birth of Jesus, get your Christmas tree, and listen to Christmas music!
Personally, I've never been a huge fan of Christmas music, but there are two songs I always listen to as it gets closer to the holidays. Both songs tell their own story and deliver a cheerful message about the holidays and the Christmas spirit. The genres of the songs also happen to be my top two favorite genres, hip-hop and R&B!

- “All I Want for Christmas” - Mariah Carey: “All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey is known as one of the best Christmas songs ever created. Released in 1994, Mariah Carey has sold over 16 million copies of the song, and it remains the 11th best selling single of all time. This record is a uptempo love song referring to a loved one saying, “All I want for Christmas is you” rather than gifts and presents. Just this December, the song rose to number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, making its highest peak since its original release. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs because my mom would always play it in the house when I was younger , and everytime my mom played the song, it made me even more excited for Christmas!
2. “Christmas in Hollis”- Run DMC: “Christmas in Hollis” by Run DMC is known as the greatest Christmas rap song ever created. It was released in 1988 under the late legendary record label A&M. “Christmas in Hollies” is all aboutfamily, gifts, lights, Santa Clause, Christmas, and most importantly food! Compared to other Christmas songs, this song stands out the most to me because of its storytelling and the fact that It’s a hip-hop song! Back in the 90s there weren’t a lot of rappers that made Christmas songs, and in fact, Run DMC didn’t even want to make the song until they sat down with Bill Adler (an American Music Journalist) who pushed them to create the song and wanted to put it on his Christmas album titled, A Very Special Christmas, featuing a variety of artists such as Bon Jovi, Madonna, Bob Seger, and Whitney Houston. . Later on, the group then decided to make a music video for the song which made the song even bigger. Due to its success, in 1987 the music video went on to win Rolling Stone’s Video of the Year award, beating Michael Jackson’s “Bad” music video. This is my second favorite christmas song because of how fun the song is and because of their storytelling. In hip-hop storytelling is very important and necessary if you want to connect with your listeners on a deeper level, so them doing it in this song and talking about the holidays made it even cooler and painted a very vivid picture of Christmas day. Enjoy!
