Home Alone is one of the most popular Christmas movies from the last few decades. It follows a kid named Kevin Macallister whose parents are trying to go on a Christmas vacation but accidentally leaves him behind.Chaos ensues when he finds out there are two burglars trying to invade his house. But, how did this iconic movie even get made? How hard was it putting together A popular movie franchise like Home Alone, a movie with a lot of effort put into it? When considering Home Alone was entirely made with practical effects, how did these actors pull off all these incredible stunts?

The main setting of the story takes place in Kevin's home by himself, but what you may not know is that Kevin's notorious house is not an actual real house, or at least the inside of it isn't. Instead, it's just a giant set with multiple floors inside a giant gym.

When watching the movie you will see snow in the background of almost every shot. The movie was not budgeted to have fake snow but due to the executive decision of Mark Radcliffe when a blizzard made its way into one of the shots, the rest of the movie soon had snow in the background.

There are many stunts in Home Alone, which even performed by professionals, are impressive. One of these impressive stunts includes Marv stepping on ornaments when trying to go through the window. Something that visually looks like a painful place to be in can actually be done very easily. They did this by using ornament-shaped candy that Daniel Stern could step on.

Another impressive trick they pulled off was the tarantula that appears in the movie. The spider was indeed real but Daniel Stern only allowed one take for the shot.

In the climax of the movie, when Kevin had to jump out the window with a glider, 30 year old Larry Nicholes took Macauley Culkin’s place for the scene.

Originally Daniel Roebuck was intended to play Marv and Jeffrey Wiseman was supposed to be Kevin Macalister but luckily these decisions were changed and the iconic characters we have today were born.
