TWICE the nine member Kpop girl group just released a new album titled Formula Of Love.
TWICE is signed to the record label JYP after being selected, following their appearance on a TV show, “SIXTEEN.” This is a show where young people looking to become kpop idols compete for audience popularity, much like America’s “The Voice.”. They debuted on October 20th of 2015 and rose to fame after their hit single “Cheer up” went viral a year later. The song charted number 1 on the Gaon Digital Charts. They then made their Japanese debut on June 28, 2017 and became the first Korean girl group to earn Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).
Formula of Love is their third studio album. They're trying to stick to the Love format, for example, one of their EP’S “Taste Of Love” released in 2021. After their song from Summer Nights had a hit song, “What Is Love” still being one of their top hit songs. Charting on Spotify with “The Feels” being a big success as they released the song as a single a month before the initial release of the album on October 1st of 2021. As soon as releasing the single it is instantly charted on the billboards as more dance videos of fans doing the dance.
TWICE released Formula Of Love on November 12th, 2021 as this their “big comeback.” This being a comeback because they haven't released any new album in the year 2021 since their previous album Eyes Wide Open came out in October of 2020. Otherwise, they've released 4 new EPS this year.
I'll be judging the songs based on the initial goal and the reach of the song. The beat and the lyrics. I’ll also be rating all the songs from 0 through 10.
1: Scientist (8/10)
Good, but not their best title track. I had hoped one of the other songs on the album got the music video for the album. It would've been interesting to see how they would approach it. However, since the theme was scientist, I also see why they chose this song for the music video.
Their music video for the new song “Scientist.”
2: Moonlight (8/10)
Vocals are good and pretty tight. It's really catchy and gets easily stuck in someone's head. For one of their few English songs it was really good.
3: Icon (9/10)
The lyrics really capture the main idea/goal for the song. Also the amount of English songs in this album are really good. The lyrics are really catchy.
4: Cruel (7/10)
It's a good song and the fact that one of the members wrote the song makes it even better.. Would be higher, just a little boring.
5: Real You (8/10)
It's a good song, but the verses and choruses don't grab me as much as the pre-chorus and the rap does—which isn't a good sign. I was gonna give it a (7/10), but the raps really helps it.
6: F.I.L.A (Fall In Love Again) (9/10)
The vibes are really good. It gives off an agent or detective vibe and emphasizes the study of love scenarios.
7: Last Waltz (10/10)
One of Twice’s best songs out right now. It's just absolute perfection.
8: Espresso (9/10)
Really catchy, I love the vocals on this track and the lyrics fit.
9:Rewind (7/10)
Once again, a really good song, but I think I've listened to this about 5 times and can never remember the lyrics or melody.
10: Cactus (9/10)
Amazing melody, it reminds me of a Korean Drama opening and I would 10/10 would cry too.
11: Push and Pull (Jihyo, Sana, Dayhun) (7/10)
A good song, just not as good as the other tracks maybe because only three of the members sing it and would be better with all 9 members.
12: Hello (Nayeon, Momo, Chaeyoung) (7/10)
Probably would have a much higher score if the English lyrics weren't a little iffy.
13: 1,3,2 (Jeongyoung, Mina, Tzuyu) (7/10)
I really like Jeongyoung’s vocals, but the only part that I can really remember is the song to the chorus. Just in general I didn't like the approach with the 3 member songs.
14: Candy (8/10)
I really love the instrumentals and the vocals are really nice on this track. The falsetto hook was really good and the song really compliments the members’ voices.
15: The Feels (10/10)
Already released the track before the album, but it's so catchy. It gets stuck in your head easily. The lyrics are so good.
Honestly the album was really well done, the theme and what they were going for. They shot high and did achieve what they wanted to do. I would rate this whole album a 9/10.
