2019 has been quite a year! There was so much to cover at the 2020 Grammys. Aside from awards, the 61st Grammys were full of super fancy dresses and suits, and a ton of expensive shirts and pants and pointy sharp nails—oh my!
But today we are going to be focusing on one main singer, Billie Eilish. A world-known name now, for having won 5 grammys at the age of 18, and being nominated at 17. This girl is an amazing singer! Everybody knows that! But does this 18 year old really deserve her 5 awards?
Eilish won five Grammys (Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year,) and was nominated for six (Best New Artist, Best pop vocal album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Pop Solo, Performance),and did I mention that this girl is 18! It’s crazy that she started doing this stuff at 15,writing songs when she was 11 years old. She definitely deserves all this fame and money but I also feel that all the Grammys she won should have gone to other artists. Like, Ariana Grande should have won the Best Pop Album.
“I think that other artists deserve some of the awards that she (Billie Eilish) won. I think that she impacted a lot of people, and a lot of teens and pre-teens can relate to the music and everyone likes her music that she works hard and I know that she is a new artist but I still think that some other people should have won," says Elodie Chin, an 8th grade Digital Media student.
Eilish clearly agrees. “Can I just say, Ariana should have won this award?” she mentioned during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Album.. “‘Thank U Next’ has helped me get through a lot.”

Eilish brought her brother, Fineas O’Connel along with her to the Grammys, demonstrating that she wants to give credit to her brother, too! Some people thought that Finneas should have just won.
“I think her brother did all the work,” said 7th grade OSA Vocalist Keely Brighton., “I think that she deserves the Grammys that she got but her brother still helped a lot and he deserved to win so much more, too. She definitely worked hard but it is her brother’s work and stuff. I think the music is getting more auto-tuned and you can’t really connect with the audience and the only one who was Demi Lovato, and Billie Eilish wasn’t really either, and Harry Styles should have won some for his album, Fine Line.”
“I think [Elish] is amazing and she is an amazing singer, but I feel that she is a little overrated and that Ariana Grande should have won some,” said 8th grade OSA Vocalist Corinne Bray.
“What I think is that [Elish] is the best artist,” said Jules Crossland, a 13 year old Vocalist. :”She has such a different style and different vibes and that is what people wanted, Ariana Grande should have won a lot more, she deserved it.”
Other news about the grammys:
Eilish aside, some people felt that the 61st Grammys were a little unfair.
"I think that it was unfair that Tyler the Creator won Best Rap Album because it is not even rap, and I feel that the Academy stereotyped him into the award because he is black and even Tyler said that too!" said Elodie Chin.
I also Agree. I feel that they awarded Tyler the Best Rap Album because of stereotypes. I feel that Tyler The Creator definitely deserved an award because the album was truly amazing but like I said it was kind of stereotypical. Another case is when Grande didn't win any. A Lot of people were very outraged with this choice. I personally think that “Thank U Next” definitely deserved the Grammy for Best Pop Album.. When asked. 52.6% of 22 OSA students said Grande should have won, while 47.8% said, Billie should have won.
Who was Best Dressed?
14.3% Said Tyler, The Creator, 14.3% Said Lizzo, 14.3% Said Billie Eilish and 57.3% said Ariana grande according to some students of the school Oakland School For The Arts, (OSA)
So what are your thoughts on Eilish winning 5 grammys? Do you think that Grande deserved some grammys?
