INTERVIEWEEB
Intervieweeb stands for an interview with a weeb, and a weeb is basically a person who really likes anime.
What do you like most about anime?
Heera Murray, a 7th grader in Vocal Music responded, “I love the diverse characters because there are so many types of personalities, and for each one there’s an amazing backstory. Because it seems all good but then you go into the backstory and you’re like, oh my god.” Murray continued “I love how you really get attached to the characters, and like really get to know them. And the style man, it's gorgeous.”
How did you start watching anime?
“I was inspired by a friend who recommended it highly and then I started watching it a lot,” Murray said.
What is your favorite anime you’ve watched?
“That’s a really hard question but I’m going to have to say the movie A Silent Voice. That one made me cry. My other favorite is definitely Naruto,” Murray replied.
If you could go to an anime world, which one would you go to?
“Okay, so most of the anime worlds are not really…desirable? I don’t think I want to go to the Demon Slayer world, that’s not really…I don’t wanna die. But I would go to, OH! My Hero Academia! Because I get my own quirk, also everyone there is really nice and I can see other people's quirks,” Murray responded.
Do you prefer to watch anime in Sub anime in Japanese or Dub anime voices over in English?
“Don’t even, Sub 100 percent”
Why?
“Because Japanese voice actors are so passionate, and I’m trying to learn Japanese so that helps. It’s also just more fun but I do like Dub because I don’t have to go back and forth to subtitles to the anime because I don’t know which one to look at. But still definitely Sub,” Murray concluded.
WHY ANIME IS POPULAR
Anime has been widespread in Japan for over a century, and its TV shows and movies are now exported across the world. America has been enjoying anime since the ‘60s with the anime Speed Racer, a popular anime among kids at the time. In the ‘90s, Studio Ghibli had a lot of hits such as Kiki's Delivery Service. Spirited Away even won an Oscar for the best foreign-language film at the 2001 Academy Awards.
Anime is also very popular among teens and preteens with series such as Sword Art Online, often referred to as SAO, a show about being trapped inside a video game. Another anime that is very popular at this time is Demon Slayer: Kimetsuno Yaiba, more specifically season 2. Anime is also popular in other countries all across the world. This is because of the many languages anime tends to be dubbed in.
