"With Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming to an end, and the Disney Plus series of She-Hulk being so incredibly disappointing, fans are looking with high hopes for the sequel to the cinematic masterpiece that is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." -- Alex Stullman, 7th grade
With Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming to an end, and the Disney Plus series of She-Hulk being so incredibly disappointing, fans are looking with high hopes for the sequel to the cinematic masterpiece that is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
As to respect the late Chadwick Boseman, (a moment of silence for him) the character of T’challa will not be returning to the sequel, as shown in the trailer for the film. It seems T’challa has suffered some off-screen death, and Wakanda is in mourning, hence the mural in the trailer and scenes of what appears to possibly be his funeral.

(Wakanda Forever trailer)
Since T’challa has passed, the mantle of Black Panther and ruler of Wakanda must be passed down to someone else, probably T’challa’s little sister and the smartest person in Wakanda, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright. In the Marvel comics, there was already a short-ish series in which T’challa had died or mysteriously disappeared, and it was up to Shuri to take over all his responsibilities. This series was created in 2018 - 2019, after Black Panther was released in theatres.
New Characters
On July 23rd, the trailer for the movie was released at the San Diego Comic Con, along with some others that would take a whole other article to get into. The trailer, as trailers should, gave the audience a good amount of footage and new characters for them to speculate about, while also not revealing any super key plot points or twists.
The main new character that will most likely be a big part of the plot of the film is the one and only Riri Williams, or Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne. Williams was first introduced in the Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #7. “On the very last page of that issue, readers met a 15 year-old young woman building a secret armor in her Massachusetts Institute of Technology dorm room at three in the morning!” says Marvel. This issue was fairly recent, coming out only six years ago in 2016.

(Ironheart in her 2018 series)
Williams, in the comics, is a child genius who originally makes her own Iron-suit and becomes a young superhero alongside Tony Stark once he discovers her suit. Clearly, this will not be the case in Wakanda Forever, as in the MCU, Stark has passed on.
Namor the Sub-Mariner
Probably the biggest character this film is introducing to the MCU is Namor. , who is portrayed by Tenoch Huerta. Namor has been around since 1939, and was pretty much one of the first Marvel super-characters. Actually, at the time Namor was created, Marvel wasn’t even a company. According to Google Arts and Culture, Namor was made by Bill Everett for comic book packager, Funnies Inc.
Originally, Namor was the son of a human father and an Atlantean mother. He was the Prince of Atlantis, and had a feud against humans after they unknowingly bombed his kingdom. In earlier comics, he took out this anger on quite a few super-groups, like the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, etc.

(Namor in the Wakanda Forever trailer)
With Wakanda Forever, it seems the writers have decided to take a bit of liberty when recreating Namor’s story onscreen. “For Marvel Studios' live-action version of Namor the Sub-Mariner, Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta was cast in the role.” write Savannah Sanders in her article for TheDirect.. Some [racist] fans are criticizing this decision, but honestly, who needs another white guy being angry at the world for vague reasons? Other fans have praised Huerta for his performance. It seems Namor will be an Aztec-based anti hero, and I think it would be really cool if the writers decided to explore the rich culture, as they did with Ms. Marvel.
Rumors + Theories
The big theory is whether or not the notorious Dr. Doom will be a part of the movie. Dr. Doom has been previously introduced in movies like Fantastic Four--which is sort of Marvel, but his character is not actually canon to the MCU. He’s basically one of Marvel’s biggest bad’s, right up there with Thanos and Galactus. Though he’s technically a mortal, he’s been able to cause some pretty big trouble for the heroes multiple times in the comics.
This theory is purely based on a couple seconds in the trailer in which it shows a figure (their face is covered) forcing a Wakandan down near some metal door which looks neither from Wakanda or Atlantis.
Fans think that Doctor Doom will be after Riri Williams’ advanced technology and will be the main villain of the movie. Namor will simply be to weaken Wakanda.
Whether or not this will be true, Wakanda Forever has been highly anticipated and will most likely be just as good- if not better- than its predecessor, Black Panther.
