If you're like me, you grew up in the early 2000’s watching Disney Channel, and you would do anything to hit rewind and live it all again. Well, what if I told you there was a way to get a glimpse of that Disney Channel nostalgia? You're in luck! Today I'm going to remind you of the best Disney Channel songs from back in the day. Today, I’m going to go over three of my favorite musicals from Disney Channel, and talk about my top four favorite songs from each. Hopefully it will inspire you to go give them a listen!

I decided it would be only right to start off with High School Musical. Along with these movies, the Disney channel had many shows and films about singing. This means the songs better be good… and in this case they are! I'm going to tell you about my faves, from High School Musical. From all three films, my top four are, Fabulous, The Boys Are Back, Breaking Free and, The Start Of Something New.

Fabulous is a song sung by Sharpay Evans or, Ashley Tisdale. It takes place at the country club pool. She's singing about how she likes special treatment, and everything to be fabulous. Such as trips to the spa and hot lifeguards. She says everything must be according to her.

The Boys Are Back, is sung by Chad and Troy, or Zac Efron and Corbin Bleu, best friends. The performance takes place in a junkyard. It’s a very sweet ballad symbolizing their friendship. During their dance, flashbacks from their childhood play, adding a very touching aspect to their performance. As they continue to fix Troy's car whilst singing and dancing, the boys turn into the younger versions of themselves. All along they are pondering what their future holds for them. While Troy battles his contradicting feelings on whether he should choose theatre or basketball, Troy and Chad take a trip down memory lane to see how things all started.

Breaking Free is a song sung by Gabriella and Troy, or Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, symbolizing their love and breaking the norms set for them by their classmates and parents. They want to break free from those expectations and do what they love. The Start Of Something New is a karaoke love song performed by Troy and Gabriella. When they sing, they are also meeting each other for the first time right before school starts at a party. The song also foreshadows their relationship and further struggles throughout the film. Not only is the song about starting new things and breaking out of your comfort zone, Troy and Gabriella face that challenge when they audition for the school musical.

Another Disney Channel flick about loving to sing is Camp Rock! This one is special to me because I actually saw The Jonas Brothers in concert! Sure it was this year… but it still counts. Like High School Musical, this movie series has three parts. It is about a summer camp for aspiring music artists. The main character, Mitchie attends this camp hoping to pursue and improve her talents. There she meets Joe Jonas who falls in love with her voice, not knowing who she is until the final jam when he sees her perform it.

Starting off, my all time favorite Camp Rock song is Introducing Me, sung by Nick Jonas. This song is particularly charming with its Jason Mraz style love song, that he sings to the girl he likes, who wanted him to open up about who he really is. Next up is, This Is Me. This song is sung by Mitchie Torres or, Demi Lovato. It's about her being shy and insecure but finally telling the world who she is, and her passions. She comes to terms with herself, her voice, and feelings and realizes she can't hide herself from the world. She finally sings the song in front of an audience at the final jam camp-wide concert. Although being disqualified, she makes her way on stage at the last minute and totally wows the crowd. This never would have happened if it weren't for her new found confidence which is expressed in the song. Joe Jonas who heard Mitchie sing the song early on has been trying to find her throughout the whole film. He finally sees it was her all along who wrote the song and instantly falls in love.

Next up is, Play My Music. This one is sung by the Jo Bros themselves. This song is about their passion for music and living a lavish life as rock stars. They are already a successful band in the film, brought to camp as a good example to show the aspiring artists. They teach the students how to jam and coach them to win the competition.

Last but not least is Heart and soul. This song is about having confidence and style when you're performing. The bros are saying that you can be talented, but if you don't have any pizazz, you won't be a successful rock artist like some of the legends they name in the song.

Now lastly, this wouldn't be a Disney Channel song review without talking about…  Teen Beach Movie! (My personal favorite.) This movie practically defined my childhood, especially the music aspect of it. It kickstarted my interest in songwriting, and was a great addition to my Grease obsession, as it has a fifties biker gang rivalry theme. Now it's going to be hard to pick just three, as I think this film has some of the best songs in all Disney films. But here it is.
Starting off with, On My Own. On My Own, sung by Brady, or Ross Lynch, may not be everyone's first choice, especially since it's from the second film but Ross’ voice really shines though, and really brings out his experience singing on previous Disney projects such as Austin And Ally as well as with his family band, R5.
Can't stop singing is a really charming duet between Ross Lynch and his co-star Maia Mitchel. It takes place on the beach and breaks the fourth wall with its interactive set. In the film, The music takes over them which is displayed very well through song and even, tap dancing. It is unique as it is one of the only songs played on the ukulele in Disney history. It is very charming with their dance and costumes. It also captures Maia’s voice very well, especially as a duet with Ross.

Now the last song I will be listing is Cruisin For a Bruisin. This song is how Brady and Mac first encounter the bikers. They are in the diner when the bikers burst into song and Brady joins in flawlessly. This is right before the surfers show up and all hell breaks loose. This performance is really fun with lots of dancing and leather jackets.
And those are all the Disney Channel musicals I'm going to be talking about today. so if you want to hear my opinion on the rest, look out for my next article. And thank you for reading! Below is an interview with Zuheli Romero, a good friend of mine who also grew up during the Disney channel golden age. I asked for her thoughts on my song selection and her own personal favorites.

                  INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
                    With Zuheili Romero.

Growing up watching The Disney Channel, what were your favorite shows/ movies/ musicals and what was your experience surrounding them?

Yeah, I did but more so probably nickelodeon but definitely a lot of Disney Channel. My favorite Disney show was probably Wizards of Waverly Place and Shake It Up. But for musicals, my favorite was Camp Rock. My favorite movies are Lemonade Mouth and Princess Protection Program

Did any shows/ movies stand out to you having certain songs you loved?

Lemonade mouth’s  “all the way”! That is my favorite movie and song from it.

Why do you think this song in particular really stood out to you?

I like the song because it was really catchy and I like the style. I've also been listening to it my whole life so it feels nostalgic to me.

After hearing my selection/ ranking, what do you think of it? Is your opinion similar? Did I leave any songs out that you love?

It reflects you a lot. I feel like you like the songs people find funny but you find the “beauty” in it. As well as all funny things. A song from hsm that I really like is “getcha head in the game.”

If I were to write a part two to this article what soundtracks would I have to include?

Definitely include lemonade mouth because it's also about music. But other than that I like the movies you chose. I think you covered it pretty well.

Here are the links to all the songs I mentioned! Thanks again for tuning in. <3
