The winter Olympics are over but a surprising event happened during them that is still going viral. A wolf dog ran onto the women's cross-country ski run because it was trying to find its owners, surprising both sports fans and Olympians.

Many things like this have happened before. Like in 2019, when a group of bats flew around an NBA court, or when a dog took a player's shoes in a Bolivian soccer match. These animal occurrences aren’t usually that harmful, but they make you wonder: how do they happen? The most obvious person responsible in this case is the owner, but that’s not the whole story. When the dog, named Nazgul, escaped and ran onto the ski slopes, it could’ve been stopped by the security, which has left some wondering if  these sports events need to up their security to prevent this from happening again and interfering with the sport.

Most of the Olympic security was focused on cyberattacks rather than on staffing guards at the entrances.. Maybe if they had heavier security on foot, this dog would’ve never been able to sneak onto the ski run.

“I think it was irresponsible of the dog's owner to let them free no matter what happened, however at the same time the Olympics should have better security. Overall the dog and the contestants could have gotten harmed and it would not have been okay,” said Logan Bergmark, OSA 8th grader. The dog could’ve harmed the competitors or have been harmed which could have been a major problem.

Regardless, images of Nazgul went viral. Tick-tock videos with the title “a gold medal good boy” were all over the internet. A good example of this is the video Good boy, better time.
