"Sanctuary is a place of refuge, first used for churches and religious places, but later expanded to describe any safe space." -- Logan Bergmark, 8th grade
Sanctuary is a place of refuge, first used for churches and religious places, but later expanded to describe any safe space. But for Sofia Gonzalez, a 6th-grade Literary Arts student, sanctuary is a safe place to express herself. Her sanctuary also gives her the chance to express herself through creative endeavors.
According to Gonzalez, “My room is a sanctuary to me because I can creatively express myself without any negative opinions or feedback,” allowing her to express herself through art that other people cannot bring down. This is important because it gives her a place where they can be herself without other people’s negativity stopping people from being as creative as they want to be.
A sanctuary is an important place for many people, as it allows us a space to stay safe and be ourselves.  “It’s a place where I can escape negativity.” she said.  Gonzalez’ sanctuary helps her escape things that would otherwise bring her down, which is especially important currently, as there is a lot of negativity in this current time period.
