"For Evie Ahlers, a 6th Grader in Literary Arts here at OSA, sanctuary is a place to cope and feel listened to."--Adela Orozco, 6th grade
For Evie Ahlers, a 6th Grader in Literary Arts here at OSA, sanctuary is a place to cope and feel listened to. However, sanctuary doesn’t mean a place or thing, but a person: her sister. For Ahlers, being with her older sister makes her feel calm and relaxed. She says her sister has a vibe that makes her feel like she could tell her anything.

“I feel like I can be myself around her and she is so chill. She’s such a good person in general,” said Ahlers. One of the best traits about her sister is the way she is so understanding and kind. Ahlers feels comfortable around her because she knows that no matter what, her sister will still love her.  “My sister is so funny, you know, understanding,” she said.

In addition to her sister, music makes her feel safe and taken care of. It makes her feel like she can be herself. Being with music makes her feel peaceful and happy. “I need music to calm me down whenever I fidget or feel uncomfortable,” said Ahlers. Change by Djo is Ahler’s current go-to song. “It  makes me feel spaced out and grounded,” said Ahlers.
