Alice Stewart is a Literary Arts 7th grader who attends Oakland School for the Arts. She is a passionate writer and a great person. She is kind to everyone and always takes pride in her work. Alice is a great part of a sanctuary because she’s always looking out for people.
For Alice, Sanctuary is here in Literary Arts. “I have friends, I know I can meet people, so I feel like not the only person, I have other people that feel the same thing” Having someone you trust can be a really good thing, since you can share your feelings and ideas with them. But if you have a whole lot of people you can trust, it’s even better.
Stewart described this sanctuary as being a place where she is safe from harm and a lot of people can relate to her, “I would say I’m safe from people who would be mean about who I am, or how I act, because I’m not weird, I’m just fine.”
Not only is a physical place with friends a sanctuary, but she also shared that she can find it in other non physical ways. “My sanctuary is a place but also I feel like I can find sanctuary in things I do like music, writing or a place in time.” Having many different kinds of sanctuaries is a great thing to have and many people to trust. But sanctuary really means nothing when you don’t have support, for Alice, that's found in people. That alone, is a sanctuary in itself. When people support you for who you are, there is no other place you would want to be.
