"When you think of safe, you might think of sanctuary. Well let’s see what sanctuary means to 8th grade Lit Arts student, Aniyah GarzA."--PARkER Brewer, 6th grade
When you think of safe, you might think of sanctuary. Well let’s see what sanctuary means to 8th grade Lit Arts student, Aniyah Garza. “Well, sanctuary to me is music. It makes me feel safe and at peace,” said Garza. “It makes me feel like I'm in a flow state and I feel like I have nothing to fear.”

Garza went on to say that music has helped her in serious situations. “Well, music helped me a lot through different situations in my life and it helps me relieve stress,” she said.

Garza listens to a lot of different music, including Clairo, Kali Uchis, Steve Lacy, Rihanna, Laufey Charlie xcx, Newjean, Lana del Rey, Beadoobadee, Frank Ocean, and Ariana Grande. But her favorite genre or song?  “I actually really like Kali Uchis. She's my favorite singer,” she said, “and my favorite song is ‘Give you the world’ by Steve Lacy, like he’s so peak.”

Garza said that music is her sanctuary and safe space because “it has been such a big part of my life and it has so much history to who I am.” She also said that, “Music is a safe space for anywhere I am, I think I feel safe anywhere as long as I have my headphones and my music.”
