"Lilah has a very interesting sanctuary, but what is it? IS it her pet rat?"-- DOmino H.C, 8th grade
Lilah Aparton, an 8th grade student in Literary arts, living in Oakland, finds sanctuary in cooking and baking, but why? Aparton often seeks sanctuary from school, assignments building up, an overwhelming social life, and stress, the amount of assignments being assigned. Aparton says she enjoys cooking so much, since compared to putting your heart and soul into a school assignment vs cooking, one actually gives you an award.

“Cooking helps me relieve stress, because you work so hard to get a reward, but in school you don’t really get a reward unless you consider grades you hardly get praised for rewards.” says Aparton.

But where does this love of cooking come from? What parts of Aparton's context shapes the passion? Well when Aparton was little, she’d often acquire little recipes in  the mail, specifically for little kids, which further intensified her love for baking and cooking… But more importantly, growing up Aparton often found herself admiring her grandma's baking, and was inspired to try and replicate it, which is another contributing factor. “because I liked how my grandma would bake, and how good it inspired me, and the process of cooking is so— you can do so many things with it, so you're not very restricted with anything.” Aparton adds on.

Aparton’s sanctuary that is baking, also relates to her art as when she is older she wishes to be a private chef, but not just any private chef: a private chef that will later write her own autobiography, releasing all the wicked horrors of the greedy and corrupt 1% that is filled with celebrities and billionaires, or possibly own a creative bakery, like the ones you see in Berkeley.
