"For Charlie-Knox McCasland, a Literary Arts 6th grader at OSA, he feels that any place that’s calm and comforting can be a place of sanctuary." Violet Hirsch, 6th grade
For Charlie-Knox McCasland, a Literary Arts 6th grader at OSA, he feels that any place that’s calm and comforting can be a place of sanctuary. He also knows that if he needs sanctuary and can’t find it, he can calm himself down effectively.

McCasland feels like anywhere he is, any place that reflects an environment with stillness and something like a feeling of home can be a place of sanctuary. In an interview, he said, “I do like to be at home more. I feel like it's a place where I don't have to do anything or be anywhere, but sanctuary can be anywhere as long as it is homely.” He also stated, "[Sanctuary] can be any place where you can be peaceful and reflect.”

McCasland also knows that if there’s no comforting place around him, he can make it so. “I like to calm myself down by intaking passive entertainment such as a book, a video game, a show, anything that might help me calm down. I also like to breathe deeply.” This means that even when he might be in an unfamiliar place, he can make it a sanctuary for himself.

In all, when McCasland needs a place of sanctuary, it can be anywhere, at any time.
