"President Trump has received a lot of attention for the orange color of his skin during his time in politics."--Wesleigh Stone 7th grade
Some people say he does stuff to his skin, some even say that Trump’s skin is just naturally orange, or just the result of “good genes.” In Good Genes or Tanning Beds: Why Is Donald Trump Orange? Isobel Lewis wrote, “However, make-up artist Kriss Blevens, who has worked on every President since Jimmy Carter – including Trump – recently theorised that the colour came from self-tanner.”
Trump is said to regularly use a tanning bed, every morning to maintain his orange complexion. “Trump, who suffers from rosacea, is reported to apply his own translucent makeup powder before television appearances, and has even adjusted the lighting at White House events to avoid appearing too orange on-screen. When possible, he prefers the natural light of the White House Rose Garden,” said Kevin Fitzpatrick in Vanity Fair’s piece, Trump Reportedly Does All His Own Makeup.
"I know exactly what he does to himself — the tanning bed, the spray tan, he wears the goggles and you can see the hyper-pigmentation around his eyes," said Jason Kelly in a 2016 Harper's Bazaar piece. Kelly is a Cleveland-based makeup artist that was hired to work at 2016's Republican National Convention.
There are many ways to tell that Trump does tanning beds, and many people comment on that in other articles or just in general., “It cuts off in certain areas, such as his hair line, and when his hair blows, you can see it's a different color from his forehead, and it looks really ugly,” said Paloma Bastos, a 7th-grade OSA Literary Arts student.
When Trump is at a press conference or on the news, he is either really orange or he is light orange, which shows that he sometimes spends more time under the light than other times. He even wears goggles to protect his eyes from the rays, which give him a racoon-like tan line
Many of Trump’s political opponents make fun of his orange look, while others are just tired of his look. It’s well known that his tan is fake, so why does he still do it? Some say it’s because of his insecurities, of his skin and the way he looks. So he tans his skin to look like what he thinks he should look like.
“Trump believes altering his natural skin colour will improve his appearance and, hence, sense of self. Trump's skin colour is a target of ridicule of a man obsessed with vanity yet marked by signs of failed masculinity,” wrote Lewis.
“With the people that don't like him, it definitely is making them dislike him more because he thinks he is the ideal looking person, which he thinks is a tan white male,” said Violet Regilio, a 7th-grade OSA Literary Arts student, on Trump’s look.
When Trump is traveling, he still appears really orange. “Former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman wrote in a tell-all book that Trump travels with a tanning bed, while lighter-hued circles around the president’s eyes have fueled speculation that he utilizes goggles to protect himself from ultraviolet rays,” continued Fitzpatrick.
His skin color is so well-known that when some people talk about Trump, they refer to him as the big carrot or the Cheeto. DeAndra Stone refers to Trump as ‘The Cheeto’. “This is about the Cheeto, right?”
Will Trump continue to use tanning beds despite the comments and jokes about his skin, or will he stop?
