"Spawnism is a cult formed online, in the FORSAKEN community. The cult was started as a joke; however, actual people have taken advantage of Spawnism to make people, mostly minors, harm themselves." -- Naomi stallworth, 7th grade
Alice Stewart, a 7th grader from Literary Arts, said that they think that “Spawnism is a very bad idea, because did it ever occur to them that ’oh wait maybe that's in the game because it's a bad idea??’"
Spawnists is the term used by the cultists/victims in this cult. The people who are in the cult believe their god looks like the Roblox spawn point, which is a simplified sun image. Although it comes from PaintShopPro, it has been taken into Roblox. The symbol started as a sun before Roblox took the symbol and made it into a “Spawn location.” The spawn location is where you spawn or start when playing any Roblox game. Usual spawn locations have a fully black outlined sun.
Although the developers of FORSAKEN haven't done much about this, other than banning people who talk about spawnism from their game, despite the fact that they stated they just wanted to tell people to not join cults.
In August, the Times reported that, as the cult grew both outside and inside of Roblox, mostly due to people telling their friends or random people to join, an online predator on Roblox and Discord with the name of Chezble, made it worse. He became the cult leader and started to manipulate these people into harming themselves, telling them to kill their friends for a second life in real life. [ Many claim that Chezble manipulated them into ending their lives with the lie of them respawning. As things seem to have gotten way worse for the FORSAKEN community due to the drama and cult forming, Chezble’s father exposed him and found disturbing content on his computer in a viral video posted on TikTok and YouTube. However, even with the cult leader being exposed, the cult still seems to grow to this day.
Sayuri Espinoza, A 7th grader from Literary Arts said that they think “spawnism" is "weird because people and especially adults are grooming kids into harming themselves.”
Most of these victims of Spawnism are minors. According to Psychology Today, “It happens because adolescence is a vulnerable time. It’s a period of figuring out who you are, where you fit, and what you believe. Many young people crave acceptance and purpose, and groups like these exploit those needs. Online games are especially risky in this context.”
Before the cult leader was exposed, he would tell the victims to do whatever he wanted, by using the same reason for it being “for the spawn.” for more info about that you can check out Blox explained’s video on spawnism.
