Recently, the famous rapper Nicki Minaj made a sudden shift to the right, even appearing on Erika Kirk’s ‘This is the Turning Point Tour' on December 21, 2025, where she addressed the crowd. This move shocked and felt like a betrayal to many, especially because she used to strongly voice her dislike for Trump.
Nicki Minaj was a famous female rapper, deemed the “Queen of Rap” by media outlets, fans, and industry peers, with Rolling Stone declaring her as such in 2010. Nicki has worked with many artists, even featuring in their songs and vice versa, such as Young Money labelmates Lil Wayne, Drake, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Chris Brown, DJ Khaled, Eminem, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice, Doja Cat, Latto, and more.
Nicki had voiced her dislike for Trump “...at the Pollstar Live 2020 Conference…she declared that she was “not gonna jump on the Trump bandwagon.” Nicki Minaj also vocalized her thoughts about Trump on the internet, speaking about the fact that she hadn’t come to America legally and expressing her empathy for the children of illegal immigrants during Trump’s first administration.
“In an emotional social media post in 2018, she called out the separation of families at the border during Trump’s first administration. “I came to this country as an illegal immigrant. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5…”
“This is so scary to me. Please stop this,” Minaj wrote. “Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again,” she added. At the time, Minaj’s story was very touching, and her empathy for the children in that situation was admirable. She shows having had a negative view of Trump as a whole and his immigration policies.
Nicki Minaj continued to express negative opinions about Trump until the pandemic. “Anti-vaxxers flocked to her social media when, in September 2021, she posted a story claiming that an unnamed friend of her cousin had suffered “swollen” testicles and “became impotent” after getting a COVID-19 shot, which experts attempted to refute,” according to CNN. Even more recently, “...she was reposting videos from the White House on TikTok, including one that used her “Va Va Voom” song as a soundtrack and touted Trump’s anti-trans and anti-immigration policies.”
As people on the internet started talking about her reposts, they also started speculating, wondering if the fact that her husband, Kenneth Petty, and her brother, Jelani Maraj, both sex offenders, had something to do with the fact that she is now associating with such people. [Trump and his administration, regarding the Epstein Files and speculation that Trump is a pedophile, and that most of the people in his administration are pedophiles or sex offenders themselves.]
I asked 8th grader Cece Burger about her thoughts on the matter and if she thinks Nicki Minaj having two predators in her close family somehow influenced her MAGA affiliation. She replied, “I think it’s a stupid and desperate grab at trying to remain relevant… It’s a cry for attention, and she just wants to be in the spotlight again. It really shows how deep in delusion she is.” and “...Trump's ‘America’ is accepting of these horrible, immoral, disgusting people. She's so famous and rich that things like that don't even matter to her anymore."
However, 6th-grade student Parker Brewer disagrees, saying, “I don't think so. I think that she did all of that for the money.” Brewer’s opinion on this whole “Nicki going MAGA” drama is that Nicki wants money, and she said, “I think it's really stupid…” Brewer also said she felt “...disgusted, and I got very angry when I first saw that.”

“I knew Nicki had made some horrible moral decisions in the past. But I could never imagine her going this extreme," says Burger. "It seems so fake, and unlike the Nicki we know."
